Amazing Spider-Man 2 review with spoilers!

You make an excellent point my friend. That was my main problem with DareDevil(Although I liked the movie)they tried to cram the entire DareDevil/Elektra storyline into a 90 minute movie. Where as it could have been stretched out over a couple movies.

Oddly enough, that's a main prequels criticism being discussed in the current "Vader costume" thread.

It's always better to have less shrimp in the gumbo. And I won't pretend that ASM2 was "shrimped up" quite a bit!

As much praise as I'm giving ASM2, I would've tried to remove some story-elements. Unfortunately, Webb is in a similar place as Raimi was---the studios lean on the filmmakers so as to "cram stuff in".

The difference between me and many others is that I think ASM2 does it much better than Spider-Man 3.

That and why does almost every villain have to be portrayed as sympathetic with a back story that has them a victim of circumstances and not just someone who is evil, period.

That's what I don't get about the ASM2 Rhino criticisms. If one didn't know who Rhino was, he'd just be an evil jerk with absolutely no back-story who (it's implied) is being financed by Harry Osborn, as he now has an expensive suit to cause problems with (and where else would he get that suit from?).

Lets wait and see if ASM3 is better then Spider-Man 3.

I had eye surgery three weeks ago and missed the opening of AS2....My wife took me to see it today as my eyes are finally well enough. I really enjoyed the movie. Garfield and Stone are a joy to watch. I'm a long time Spidey Fan and have little to whine about. To hear a few people here say they hated it shocked me. I didn't think anything about this movie was " hate worthy". THe acting was good, the story was fine, the action was better than ever. (CGI is some pretty fantastic stuff) CGI has made superhero movies possible. Kids are growing up with the chance to see 3-4 superhero movies each summer? WOW!! I would have loved to have a Super Hero movie to look forward each summer!!
I loved the kid Spidey standing up to the rhino. It made the movie fun for me...Spidey was quick with the quip, which made him perfect. Thats the smart *** I grew up reading. Whistling the spidey theme while catching bad guys...priceless.
The opening action was great, moves a little slow through the middle, then picks up again at the end......lots of destrucytion in NY again....the Avengers are not going to be pleased..they just cleaned it up from the last fight. THey need to have Spidey swing across the sky in the next Avengers movie.

I dont need a back story for all the spidey bad guys, I just want to watch him win.....and make them feel inadequate while doing so. THe Rhino was in the movie the perfect amount. We just needed to see Spidey get back in the saddle again after mourning Gwen.

I Like the Harry Osbourne charachter...did not like his Goblin. For him to pop in at the end of the movie and kill Gwen...that did feel rushed. Spidey in the comics has quite a few Goblin battles before he targets Gwen....but hey as my wife pointed out to me ..so what..thats Comics and this is a movie. Two hours to tell a story line...not 12 months.

I would like to see a Kraven the hiunter spidey movie. THat was a great story line, when he killed Spidey...kind of....

All and all...8 out of 10. Garfield is the Shiznit. I will continue to watch future Spidey movies.

I have very mixed feelings about this one...I liked it but didn't love it, and I really wanted to love it.

The Green Goblin was terribly rushed, and I was surprised at how little impact Gwen's death had on me. You knew it was coming a mile away, and it really felt like they were running out of movie, so they needed to hurry up and kill her off. Gwen's death was much more powerfully portrayed in the comics than here.

I finally went to see this the weekend before last, and also left feeling that the Goblin appearance was extremely rushed and shoe-horned, specifically for the sake of killing off Gwen. Her death had very little impact on me as well.

And I think this is why: every Spidey film has had at least one perilous fall of a loved one (Mary Jane at least three times, Aunt May, Gwen (in S-3)) When it finally did happen, after no less than two additional "almosts" for me it was, "Hmm...well there it is...popcorn?"

Gwen was what I liked the most about ASM 1 & 2. I was a very harsh critic of Stone's casting, and was caught off guard when I saw ASM 1, she absolutely rocked that role. She will be missed.

Hope they can find a better way to handle the villain(s) in the next one...so far I'm not impressed with any of them except Doc Ock.

Yes...one of my favorite scenes from any Spider-Man comic was Spider-Man's reaction when he realized people were gathering on the scene where Gwen died...the thought of people touching her...taking pictures of her, and how he rushed back to protect her, even after she was dead. I was 11 when I bought 121 & 122 and yet to this day...whenever I see an image of the Brooklyn Bridge...I recall the devastation I felt as a young reader. I also recall the sense of justice I felt regarding the way in which the Goblin brought about his own demise.

This movie failed to stir in me what a simple image of a bridge can.



Funny note...the image of the bridge also reminds me that it is not called the George Washington Bridge.

Saw Amazing Spider-Man 2 and it just wasn't believable. I mean the cops show up seconds after a crime is committed. Anyone living in NYC will tell you that would never happen; totally unrealistic.
