Oddly enough, that's a main prequels criticism being discussed in the current "Vader costume" thread.
It's always better to have less shrimp in the gumbo. And I won't pretend that ASM2 was "shrimped up" quite a bit!
As much praise as I'm giving ASM2, I would've tried to remove some story-elements. Unfortunately, Webb is in a similar place as Raimi was---the studios lean on the filmmakers so as to "cram stuff in".
The difference between me and many others is that I think ASM2 does it much better than Spider-Man 3.
That's what I don't get about the ASM2 Rhino criticisms. If one didn't know who Rhino was, he'd just be an evil jerk with absolutely no back-story who (it's implied) is being financed by Harry Osborn, as he now has an expensive suit to cause problems with (and where else would he get that suit from?).
