    RIP Al Feldstein

I just found out that Al Feldstein passed away today at 88 years old. This one hurts, really hurts. I've been a huge EC comics fan since I was 12 years old, and this gentleman was responsible for the scripts of so many stories I loved, published by, IMO, the greatest comics publisher ever. Very few of the EC guys left at this point. RIP Mr. Feldstein...

No doubt one of the greats. EC's influence can be seen all over pop culture, and Feldstein had a huge impact on EC's output.

As best as I can figure, there are only two EC folks left now, Jack Davis and Marie Severin. I can't believe that....

I just found out about this. It's very sad. MAD was such a huge influence on me. It actually changed the way I see the world. Of course I love his EC work as well.

I'm a HUGE Kurtzman Mad fan, but Feldstein was the one who shaped it into the magazine I read and loved growing up in the seventies.

His EC stuff shouldn't be ignored either. Panic is too often overlooked IMHO.

You know, it's funny how much we owe guys like this for shaping our childhoods. Mad Magazine was my first exposure to "counter-culture", and definitely left a lasting impression through my whole life. Those old issues hold up (un)surprisingly well.

I love the old EC comics. Feldstein had such a bold, precise line style that worked shockingly well with some of the gore and corpses he illustrated.

Here's one of my favorite Feldstein covers:

One of a few that I never got a chance to meet. RIP Al.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                    The beauty that surrounds them
                    Isn't it a pity".

One of the true giants in the history of Comic Books. Sad to hear this and sorry I didn't know until now. Rest In Peace. Many thanks for all those great stories and artwork.
