100% correct!......many years from now when Chris Evans passes away kids from this generation are going to cry their hearts out....That's how you know. The day Chris Reeve died was a miserable day for me and kids from our generation.....

That's one of the best articles I've read on the subject. As much as I hate to say it, I agree with pretty much everything the author said. Thanks for the link.

Imagine if you will someone who does not know who Superman is and went to see Man of Steel. What did that person come away with at the end? Guaranteed it's different than anybody else who knew the character like we do. Snyder's Superman had more in common with Jackman's Wolverine than the character who celebrates his 75th anniversary. How is that anything but a failure? What filmmakers have forgotten is it's cool to be a good guy. Sure, it's more work for the writers and director to make a big blue boy scout believable, but therin lies the reward...Insipration. How many kids dressed up as Superman for Halloween? How many begged their parents to make them a cape? Morality, integrity, honesty, honor and selflesness are the principles upon which Superman has lasted this long. Chris Evans and his Cap represent everything Superman should. He would have been good in the role.

WB, Snyder and Nolan tried to update a character that didn't need one. It was the equivalent of Disney re-imagining Mickey Mouse as a ninja.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I read this post aloud to my family and they all agreed and thought it was well said.

I'll throw in another amen for this comment. Very well put. I agree with the premise of the article, and to completely dismiss it because it doesn't reinforce your own personal ideals is shortsighted.

As a DC fan, it saddens me how much more in tune and unashamed of their origins that the Marvel films are. You can tell instantly in the first minutes during the credits... during the Marvel logo sequence that runs at the beginning of each film, they show simulated comic panels quickly flipping from one to the next. It embraces the source material by making comics look exciting and putting them right up front. And it looks fantastic. First time I saw it it really made a great impression on me.

I can't even remember what DC does.

Lois and Clark was far more true to the Superman standard than anything made after it. At least this show got it right that CLARK is the central character, the polar north of the moral compass. If you can manage to get Kent right, Superman is easy. Routh would have been awesome had he been given better material. The same might be said of Cavill, but he lacks any sort of charm, wit or even empathy. Superman is best when his humanity is shown, not his powers.

Bruce Timm's was even more on target than L&C.

for everything that was wrong with the GL film I actually thought that Ryan reynolds did do a good job with his portryal of Hal Jordon as he was before the hard travelling hereos era.
