Do you regret direction of current Captain America film?

Don't get me wrong...I think the Winter Soldier looks fantastic and can't wait to see it. I'm just a little disappointed we didn't get to see more of Cap in action during WWII. In their rush to bring the character into the present and the Avengers, they skipped over a lot of Cap's history.

For instance, we are never introduced to Baron Zemo which is a shame because after Red Skull I consider him to be Cap's #2 baddie. It would also have been fantastic to see Cap with the Invaders against Baron Blood. My hope for a third film is that they'll take a cue from the John Byrne run and have Cap return to Europe to revisit the WWII theatre.

I think they could expand on the first film by going into more detail on Cap's attacks of all the Red Skull's bases and introduce Baron Zemo there. I would love it if one of the bases was Greymoore Castle where the Skull and Cedric Rawlings attempted to launch the V-2 rockets.

    Thoughts?

there are always flashbacks. If they do bring in Zemo and explain how Arnim Zola got messed up that's how they would have to do it. If Strucker's really in the Avengers sequel I think you can expect a bit of that.

Agreed, the ending to get him to the present day seemed rushed. I don't know if they would do any more WW2 stuff though, but a web series or such would be cool.
I'm more concerned over Cap being all blue & gray... Why is the red white & blue gone?

Cap wears his First Avenger uniform in this as well. I honestly think it was to sell more action figures. Cap has had 3 distinct looks for the 3 films he's been in. Makes it easier to sell toys and not make the new stuff look just like the old stuff.

I hope we get some flashbacks, but I understand the necessity to set it in the present. If Cap wasn't part of the overall Avengers series, I would have preferred them staying in WWII for a few films.

I feel lucky we got one Cap story centered around WWII and not just a flashback to his origin after he was found.

With the way his adventures were montages in the first film, they could easily dip back into WWII if they wanted and maybe they will in flashbacks. But to young people today, WWII is almost like the Civil War was to 70s kids.

The Winter Soldier story is a good one and it tied back into the first film. I think they just wanted to get it out there.

Zemo is cool, but on a macro level he is so much like the Red Skull. It's do we use the Red Skull who has already been introduced or do we do Zemo and go back to WWII and tell his origin. It's just easier not to have to backtrack through an origin - I'm just guessing that the Skull somehow plays a role in the new movie

Cap is eventually going to be a TV program for Marvel, like Daredevil. It's a cost-effective character that can exist in whichever period.

If Shield survives past Avengers2, they'll reboot the character post-Evans on the series. He would have been the star of SHIELD if Evans wasn't a movie stah.

It's also why they're not going to resign Jackson for Fury.

I love Cap, but I felt it was rushed to bring it into the present. I totally understand, but when you tease me with the original Human Torch and the chance that we could have had an Invaders movie.....left me a bit disappointed.

I'd dearly love to see an Invaders movie, but marvel doesn't have the rights to Human Torch or Sub Mariner for its movies.
Maybe they could do an animated video?

Cap and the Agents of Shield would be a great TV show. I think it would be great synergy to pull The TV Cap, once it's recast, into big screen Avengers flicks if they are still making them.

From what I've read Evans has three movies left on his contract after Winter Soldier - Avengers 2 plus two more, but if he wanted to leave and they wanted to recast I guess it would happen.

Has Shield been picked up for next season?

But a Cap series would allow for so much more character development. The Man out of his own time period could be explored so much more effectively. Using a character like Baron Blood as a villain would be better for TV than a film.

As Far as Marvels Netflix characters, I think they should have set it up where the Netflix series could me used as a spring board for a mid budget Defenders theatrical film instead of a series.

My biggest gripe with the Cap movie is they have the Red Skull being in charge of Hydra instead of Baron Von Strucker.

but in the movie Hydra was just a solution to replace the Nazis so they could market this and liscense it to toys.

How can we regret anything if the movie isn't out yet? We don't know what all the scenes are about. Yes, Hollywood shows WAAAAAAY to much in the trailers but you don't get all of it. I stay away from all that stuff anymore. I no longer want to know anything before I see it.

Well, it's pretty obvious the film isn't going to take place in WWII again...that's specifically what I was referring to, so seeing it yet isn't really necessary...

Actually Hydra is represented exactly as it was in the comics back in the 60's and 70's except for the red skull connection, it was not a movie marketing decision, but even in the 60's it was easy to market anyone beating up on germans there were whole genres of tv (combat, hogan's heroes, rat patrol, 12 oclock high) and film (guns of navarone, kelly's heroes, dirty dozen, Hell is for heroes etc) in the 60's driven by retelling ww2
