Japanese Retro Style Vinyl Superman Bizarro and Swamp Thing

A blog about art toys, urban vinyl, designer resins & collecting toys. Also features superhero movies, anime, pop culture, & Street art.

Pre-orders begin January 24th (Fri) 0:00AM to February 28th (Fri) 2014 11:59PM. Both 250mm tall Superman and Bizzaro are priced at 8,000 JPY, while the 300mm tall Swamp Thing is going for 12,000 JPY. Delivery is to late May.
So I know that the Batman vinyls were about eighty bucks through Previews.

I'd be willing to drop that much for Swampy, but dang... they have priced him at $120ish. He's bigger than the others.

I love these but I can't fork over that kind of cash for a vinyl figure.

Those are cool, but way too pricey for me.

I'd love that Swampy sofubi, but oof, 12,000 yen? The thing that kills me about all these limited, "designer" vinyls is that they are basically modern versions of toys that were the cheapest toys kids in Japan could buy back in the day. So cheap two dollar toys evolved into $100 "collectables".

I like them...but yeah, the price is just nuts. The Superman reminds me of the Mego Stretch Supes.

All they have to do is add "sofubi" to the description and they can double the price.

I know that these are limited and therefore the economies of scale are completely different, but I just can't justify paying those prices when Bandai to this day is pumping out Ultraman and Kamen Rider sofubi that retail for the equivalent of seven bucks a pop in Japan.

Removable Mask and total 70's vibe and colour scheme. I'd drop fifty bucks a pop on each of these in a heartbeat (and have for similar Freddy Krueger and Gatchaman vinyls). $170 for the pair would just kill me. But it seems like the art-toy hipster crowd has that kind of bank to toss around these days.

And the scale is a little too big for Mego?

I wouldn't call that Bizarro "classic."

There's something about these that regardless of the price, isn't winning me over. Can't put my finger on it.
