    Good question!

I've had the good fortune of meeting a few really really great ones.

Meeting Will Eisner was my absolute high point. What an amazing experience. He was incredible friendly, and very patiently answered questions and told us stories. Incredible.

Talking to Jim Steranko was another great experience - but it took a bit for him to warm up. Here is a tip if you meet him --- DON'T talk about comics right away. My buddy I was with had the good sense to ask him about music first and that broke the ice wide open - he became very generous with his time after that. He was spending about 3 seconds with each fan before we showed up - we left a lot of ticked off people waiting in line behind us as he gave us lists of music to check out, chatted about how he met Orson Welles, talked about his drawing technique, and then showed us new original artwork he was working on... BUT if we had started by asking about S.H.E.I.L.D I think he would have said "glad you're a fan, nice meeting you --- next..."

I regret not meeting a lot of artists who passed away. Jack Kirby, Harvey Kurtzman, Dr. Seuss, Wally Wood, Don Martin top the list off the top of my head.

A few I'd really like to meet who are still alive:

Jack Davis (is he in good health these days? I hope so!)
    Eddie Campbell
    Gahan Wilson
    Jules Feiffer
Gilbert Hernandez (I've met the other two, but keep missing him for some reason)

Uh - sure, might as well toss Steve Ditko in there - and then R. Crumb and Bill Watterson in there too for good measure.

That's a great point - I'll add him to my list too!

BTW, if anyone in NY is going to attend the March 1st Comic Book Marketplace convention in NYC...George Perez has just confirmed via facebook that he will be in attendance. There are very few artists these days that are worth waiting in line for...George is at the top of the list.

I think John has lightened up in recent years. Have you been to his website and forum? He's SUPER nice to the fans there.

Byrnes opinionated. A old timer even when he was younger. Hes never really liked working with other writers or artist either; just likes to do his own thing. Him, Peter David, and Todd Mcfarlane got into a very public shouting match once (that spilled over into letter columns in JBNM, Spawn, and Davids column) Thats were some of that comes from. I doubt hes willing to take a really stupid comment from anyone even now, lol.

Byrne does pretty well just on commissions. I dont think he does conventions at all now.

All the main ones I would want to meet are already gone. George Perez, Dan Jurgens, and Jerry Ordway are probably the ones I would most likely want to wait in a long line for. I wouldnt mind meeting Richard and Wendy Pini, Colleen Doran, and Sergio Aragonés to.

Super-nice to his fans on his forum. I'm not impressed with what I see over there--it's actually made me think less of him, & that's before I'd heard of stuff that happened decades ago.

I met Byrne and he was pleasant. At that same convention, while waiting in line for Mark Waid, a woman behind me was loudly griping about how Byrne refused to sign a book he had drawn. At the top of his lungs, Mark Waid, who was clear on the other side of the room said "Has someone else got a crazy John Byrne story?". In hindsight, it was kind of a Richard move for Waid, but it was funny.

I met Byrne quite awhile back, early 90s maybe, but he was nice, signed my books & was pleasant.

He was in another room at the time. This was Mid-Ohio Con in Columbus. Haven't been in years, but it used to be in several rooms on one floor of a hotel in downtown Columbus.
