    Miracle Man reprints

Miracle Man reprint comic from Marvel is out today. If you missed this in the 80s it might be worth picking it up. Moore and Leach's storyline has influenced most super hero comics to sone degree or another ever since for good or ill.

Of course it's influence is so widespread that it might not be the revelation for new readers as it was for those in the 80s, but I'm hoping it holds up.

Unfortunately, I sold off my issues in the 90s so I haven't read the since I was a teen. Glad the rights to this were cleared up. If these issues had been in print since the late 80s like Watchman and DKR, there might be a Miracle Man film out there.

I thought Marvel only had the rights to the Marvel Man stuff that came out before Miracleman??

They apparently have cleared everything... Gaiman and Buckingham are slated to finish their run once they finish reprinting all the previously published and unpublished content (which is likely why Fables is ending).

Alan Moore is not credited, just "the original writer".

censoring a bare bottom doesn't bode well for the childbirth scene in later issues.
Miracleman #01 (Eclipse) vs. Miracleman #01 (Marvel) Is Marvel censoring Miracleman? Bad fucking form if so.

Are they reprinting the covers too?? If so...you know issue 15's cover will be censored...severed head and all:

              $5.99 was a bit steep for a reprint ..

And I also have issues with Alan Moore and his "I'm too good for comics" attitude. Its too bad such a talented writer is also such a pompous prig.

So I was really on the fence about getting this. $2 extra for issue one and the solicitations have issue two being priced at $4.99.

And to be honest, what pushed me over the edge to adding this to my pull list is reading the Moore wants nothing to do with it and wants his name removed from the project. I'm a huge fan of Alan Moore's stuff that he doesn't seem proud of ...

^So now Moore doesn't want anything to do with this? If that's true, I wish he would follow in his hero Ditko's footprints and just disappear from public life. If you hate it so much, just go away Alan. Just go away.

So now that Marvel finally owns the character, is he Marvel Man or Miracle Man? Or should they just call him the Sentry?

So the interest in Marvelman, previously a trite, opportunistic rehash of Capt.Marvel, lies in Moore's revision of the character--and he's disowned it?

What's his point? I though he wanted reprint proceeds to go to original derivator Mick Anglo (per Wiki).

He's so full of contempt for his work, the medium, the genre which he has now redefined, his audience, the "business" of it.

                    Why doesn't he self-publish?

The first Eclipse cover is reprinted as a variant. The colouring is pretty decent, better than the original Eclipse newsprint version, but truth be told, I always preferred the black and white Warrior version up until they improved the paper quality around the time John Totleben came an board (or maybe it was Chuck Beckam/Austin or Rick Veitch's run?).

The first issue is cool if you like the extra stuff like interviews with Mick Anglo and background material on the early days. From a historical perspective. Although I'm probably much more interested in background material from Gary Leach... big fan of his.

They decided Miracleman had more cache with North American audiences. They have already shored up the Marvelman trademark by reprinting Mick Anglo stuff, now it's time to do the same with Miracleman so no one else can jump on it.

Didn't McFarlane own the rights to the last unpublished story?? I thought I read somewhere that he did...

Court settled it between McFarlane and Gaiman over rights to Angela, and Miracleman. Gaiman owns half of Angela (which he has seemingly sold to Marvel) and McFarlane does not have any claims over Gaiman or Buckingham's work on Miracleman (there were reversion clauses rumoured on Dez Skinn's contract with Eclipse?).

Given that there has been nary a peep out of anyone over the internets would seem to indicate everyone who wants a piece of the action has been paid off, including Alan Davis, who returns to the property for the first time since falling out with Alan Moore, and is contributing covers.

Over time, this is expected to be kept in print in perpetuity, so everyone involved is expecting to make long term Watchmen royalties on this I would assume. Particularly if the Marvel Studio division starts leveraging this IP.
