With a heavy heart...Nick Cardy has passed away

Just read this over on George Perez's Facebook page...Nick Cardy has passed away at age 93. Another one of the GREATS has passed away

I had the honor and privilege of meeting Nick at a comic con in NYC a few years back. In fact I think it was his only NY appearance that I can remember. Very kind and gracious man. There will only be 2 artists that will EVER define the Teen Titans and Nick Cardy will be one of those 2 artists. RIP Nick Cardy.

Word of Nick Cardy's worsening health had been circulating all around this weekend as he was placed into hospice care, but we are sad to report that Cardy

Everyone knows the Wondergirl Cover of Titans...This is probably the one that sticks out in my mind of the many covers he did:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

    - "Isn't It A Pity"
    By George Harrison

Cardy is and was one of my heroes. His stuff was such a standout at DC. It could be polished and beautiful like the house-style, but was at it's best when he was allowed to cut loose with shadows and cross-hatching, like the TT#14 cover above. And no one drew women more beautiful than Nick Cardy. Not even John Romita!

      A true master is gone.

He will be sadly missed that robin cover is a very nice representation of his work.

Never got to meet the man, he was ailing & had to cancel out the couple times he was coming to a con I was attending. His art was beautiful, and really defined the Titans, Aquaman, & of course Bat Lash, iconic is the best word. He did the art on this, my favorite cover if all time:

I saw him at a couple of shows in the late 90s. Both times his table was next to Ramona Fradon. Both were tremendously friendly and as Chris mentioned above, seeing their pencils and the type of texture they used in shading was really cool because it was all lost in the inking.

Cardy was one of DC's main cover artists when I really began getting interested in comics in the 70s. Really enjoyed his style.
