    DC Moves to Burbank

And with that...the DC of old is completely no more. It took a LONG time for Warner corporate to totally absorb DC, but that time has come.

Somewhere in New York, in an abandoned office building, in a closet somewhere inside, hangs a discarded pair of red trunks...

In the age of freelancers, Internet and overnight shipping I don't think it really matters where they are located.

But it is sad to see that history disappear as the comic book publishers get more and more absorbed and unified with the big corporations that own them.

I wish I was around when you could just go visit the offices.

I think his will be a case of too many chefs ruining the soup. Everything will be micro-managed. Never again will someone say, the book isn't doing so well so give it to so-and-so and see if they can do something with it.

Also when someone gets pizssed off by DC and decides to leave and work for Marvel, (or for anyone), it won't just be harder to do so but they could be victimized by that old favorite: the Hollywood Blacklist.

Every time I hear Burbank I think of Johnny Carson.

^I'll be honest, I think I was channeling Steve's graphic on his great Collecting Superman site. Check the link, and look over to the right. I can imagine those trunks hanging in that old office closet...

Well, now that story-boarding is more valued than story-telling, what should we expect?

They mentally moved there years ago, but there was a sliver of hope as long as the physical office remained in NYC, there was a chance things would change.

                    ...now that is gone.

I'm going to miss standing outside across the street at the David Letterman Theater and glancing up at the 5+ floors of DC swag that peppered all those windows and wondering...just wondering.

                    RIP DC

My question is how long before they retire the "DC Comics" concept and rebrand everything Warner Entertainment?

National Periodical went the way of DC Comics. It's evolution.

^Good point. Their current "DC Peel" logo is VERY corporate, and could be the logo of anything. It's missing the heroic dynamism of the DC Bullet, or even the short-lived DC Spin. So it wouldn't take much for it to meld into WB corporate completely.

Even when the corporate name was NPP they were still referred to as DC Comics by everyone else. It was always DC vs Marvel, not National vs Marvel.

Sad indeed.....I use to go and show up at their offices when I was in high school and would ask for a portfolio review. they were nice to me and gave me pointers on how to improve my portfolio and they always gave me copies of samples of work and a few comics....lol
