    What the hell ?

That Fleischer Superman segment are not planes...they are flying robots robbing buildings in Metropolis in the episode Mechanical Monsters...

Mechanical Monsters is the second Superman cartoon ever made.

The very first one, simply titled Superman (1941)...was actually nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Subject: Cartoons, but lost to a Walt Disney short starring Pluto.

Fleischer Studios produced the first nine Superman shorts...dwelling mostly in science fiction...and they remain my all time favorite Superman cartoons. Prior to Fleischer...Superman could only leap over tall buildings...Fleischer was responsible on making the man of steel fly for the first time.

After Fleischer...Famous Studios took over...their eight Superman shorts were more of World War 2 propaganda type toons...where you had Superman sobotaging the Japanese in order to help the Allies...and it even featured Hitler...in a cameo role.

I prefer Fleischer over Famous Studios.

^^^ I always liked science-fiction Superman and was glad Man of Steel incorporated so many sci-fi elemements in it.

The earler post for this had an interview with Bruce timm They did make some creative exclusions (like Lois and clark and brandon Routh) becuase they had difficulties with their representation in animation, And for comic versions they wanted to make it a bit broader for the less hardcore fans (since it would be harder for the general public to tell the drifferces in artist style. I don't know if I would say byrne got "hosed" (really the lasting contrbution "representation of the byrne era would have been the evil businessman lex) and there were shots if the mullet era, Doosmday, the Reign of the supemen, Black suit, superman blue and red

overall I am very happy with it
