It's very cool. Twitch, a live streaming site, had the 75th anniversary of Superman panel on Saturday. I missed half the panel, but they ran the short for a second time at the end. It was cool. Superman basically morphed from one iteration of the character to the next in chronological order. starting with him crashing the car and then running off the cover of Action Comic 1 and making big leap into The Fleisher version and so on. When it comes out on the Man of Steel blue ray, I'm going to have to watch it frame by frame. It was very cool. I loved the George Reeves part because it went black and white and looked just like him. Brainiac, doomsday, Mr. Mxyzptlk were in it. I don't recall seeing Luthor, but he had to be in it somewhere. The Christopher Reeve shot had him flying upward and banking into a 180 turn. It ended with Lee's version of Superman morphing into Cavil's. But it was packed with cool stuff.
Mike Carlin was on the panel and he said seeing it made him tear up. I didn't tear up, but it did make me pull out some of my Superman and Action Archives to thumb through while watching football later Saturday night.
On another subject, the DC animation panel was streamed on Friday, and it does appear that the bulk of their new output will be New 52 related. James Tucker said that the stories wouldn't be straight adaptions of the material, but they did want most of the features to reflect what is currently being produced in the comics.
He did say that Aquaman was not in the new JL movie because he would be getting his own animated feature, probably in 2015. Gotham by Gaslight is being adapted for 2014 along with the JL movie.
The clip from the JL movie featured Wonder Woman in a non new 52 uniform being introduced to ice cream by a little girl and then being lectured by Steve Trevor. It was pretty cute.
It was also said in the panel not to hold your breath on a Kingdom Come adaptation. Jay Olivia said it would be An injustice to do the movie in any other style than Ross' and that they would need a $30 million budget to do it.
^i do too. On the panel they seemed to be in love with the Young Justice type of style used in flashpoint, but the Hellboy animated movies sorta captured Mignola's style. Maybe the WB would do the same. Tucker said he came up on Timm's style of animation and that while he still enjoys it, they are trying to go their own way.
Awesome! I love seeing videos like that with audience reactions. Wonder Woman had the best scene, reading that dialogue is funny enough but to actually hear is/see it is hilarious!
