Alex Ross is an incredible artist.
Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what the original would sell for (like the picture above)?
For some reason I seem to think I read somwhere that his paintings sell for $30,000 + and if that's true, then the one above would sell for even more than that.
I wonder if one day after we're all long gone if his paintings will bring in 7 figures like an Andy Warhol or Jackson Pollack painting would today?"The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

The Shazam saturday mormning show was pretty popular in it's day. I like the Flash TV series a lot but it didn't get near the attention it deserved.Comment

The picture just flat-out rocks!
Q: So, is this a companion to the shows, with episode guides or reviews and interviews, like the All-Star, Legion and Titans companions?
Q: I guess I should check the TwoMorrows site for when the book will ship. Didn't look like Newsarama had a release date...
C: I guess The Flash wasn't included because his show was on in the '90's, right? TwoMorrows pretty much has staked out anything and everything leading up to either Crisis On Infinite Earths of the '90's.
I was never a fan of the Superman TV show. Not because of George Reeves, but because of the show itself. It was nothing like the comic. No Luthor or Brainiac. Just gangsters. That was kind of bogus. The Batman show campy, but it has the rogues gallery. Wonder Woman could have been better. I never watched Shazam!
C: I would imagine that Alex Ross would have that image up for sale on his site. Color pages from Justice have been going for something like $3,000 to $10,000. I can't seem to wrap my brain around numbers like that.
Can't wait to hold the book in my greasy little hands!Shameless self-promotion -

Wow, I did see some originals upwards of $12K but not even as good as this coverwork.
Maybe one of these days, I'll have the money to purchase one."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

I always felt the Clark Kent of Chris was directly influenced by the Clark of the 40's and the comics of the 60's (he often "fainted" and Lois called him a milquetoast) This was very different to the clark of the 50's show and even comics of the 70's where clark was a very Vibrant personality and he was a go-getter reporter.
While Chris wasn't in a slugfest the reality of the character is if any version of superman hit a villian (other than zod et al and darkseid) full force he would pulverize them (basically most versions of superman post 44 and pre Byrne reboot are so strong a flick of thier finger is strong enough to knock someone out). it wouldn't make for fun comic reading or animation or movies if he wasnt in a slugfest if the character fought normal people alot. We will have to agree to disagreeComment

I don't know how this turned into THAT old debate again, but I think Chris was the perfect Superman for the 70s/80s, where as George was perfect for the 50s. A man showing his softer side was more acceptable by the time Chris played Superman. If George had done this, he would have been laughed off the set. Chris had the benefit of a more adult approach to the material as well, being able to portray an almost godlike character, with all the range of emotions that kind of existens would entail in Supes and the chance to try and differentiate the roles of Kent and Superman. George was essentially told to play a flying tough guy with a strong moral code, and a non-flying tough report with a strong moral code.
Different times, different approaches. Both right, both great actors for Superman.

Hey, don't get me wrong---I like George's SUPERMAN just fine---I was raised early
on 'im! But thank god for changing times------- if the Superman character wasn't
allowed to develop into such a wishywashy sensitive type, we'd never have gotten
to see Batman out "man" him time & time again
Hey, I'm a bigger SUPERMAN fan than BATMAN fan--- but it IS a kick to observe
(especially knowing that at any minute SUPES could just snap and tear BATS in half)"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Amazing as usual, Ross never ceases to amaze me.
But Alex likes it when Superman dosen't smile. He loved the older Superman who would just kick butt rather than smile!sigpic
