Which characters in the DC Universe would be considered Mutants by Marvel standards?

I thought the "metagene" was DC's way of having characters develop powers through mutation?

The ones that spring to mind are Black Canary, Jericho from the Teen Titans, Fire, Iron Lad, Misfit, Cyclone, Jesse Quick and the Cassandra Cain Batgirl

I think it would be easier to say who isn't!

DC's biggest heroes have better origins than just "they were born that way". Having said that, there are quite a few mutants. Captain Comet was "the first mutant", although I think Namor beat him to he publication punch.

Seems to me that Mammoth and Shimmer were mentioned as mutants in Teen Titans.

DC is big on aliens (Supes, Hawkman, M.Manhunter) & they have used magic more successfully than Marvel (WW, Shazam!, Fate, Spectre, Zatanna).

But mutants? Wouldn't the Flash & Black Canary be properly considered mutates by Marvel standards?

Aquaman is technically biracial but has magic-based Atlantean heritage, similar to the Amazons. But isn't his more powerful telepathy a mutation?

            I like this thread!

Amazing Man of Infinity Inc. springs to mind as a mutant. In fact, weren't several II members the progeny of "mutate" Golden-Age heroes?

                Green Lantern - alien technology

Seems the age of the character and what the public is currently scared of turns into the origins.
Golden age: chemicals (warfare) -> Silver age: radiation (cold-war) -> Bronze age: mutation (bio-engineering)

^Impressive! And for modern characters, would tech (nano/digital) inspire origins?

Jericho of the New Teen Titans was always classified as a mutant

You have to Be Born a Mutant ... I believe .
Thats Why ..., Like Spider-man , F4 ... and like the Hulk are not.

Born is the Key Word here .

Didn't Stan Lee say that calling the character "mutants" was his lazy way of explaining their powers? Or something to that affect?
I think the list of DC mutants is fairly short...

For the current age, I think the key word is LEGAL. As in creators don't create new characters for the Big Two because legally they don't own them, therefore they muck up previous creator's characters to their liking.

                              Hmmmm....

I think most DC characters would TECHNICALLY be mutants.... even ones never identified as such. There are a lot of guys who just have strange powers far beyond mere mortals, and there are a lot of guys with improbable origins that would require some sort of extra something to make them work. Like the Black Condor learning to fly after being adopted as an infant by a flock of birds. Or the Elongated Man, who gets his power from a commercially available pop. (It would also explain why there aren't a zillion Elongated Dudes in the DC Universe; you can't just drink the drink, you need that extra something for it to work.)
