Your Recommendation : 1970's Super Friends show for 3 year old boy

Thank you for taking the time to read my posting.

What season or seasons of the 1970's Super Friends or World's Greatest Super Friends on DVD would be best for a 3 year old boy based on the following criteria:

    - minimal to no violence and no "hitting"

    - lessons on being kind to others, respecting our environment / earth, etc.

    - Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman are in the episodes (or at least most of them)

    - entertaining / interesting story line

The DVD releases for this series are somewhat confusing (to me). If you could please be specific about the title of which DVD release you recommend, that would be great.

    Much appreciation for your assistance.

The first iteration is DEFINITELY the kid-friendliest with zero hitting, plenty of moral lessons, etc. It also makes it the least favorite of about every comic fan.

Here's a link to DVDs of this version on Amazon:

I'm with Chris. First season fits that criteria.

IMO, all you want to do is avoid Challenge of The Superfriends, Legendary Super Powers and Galactic Guardians.

Any of the shorts with Zan/Jana shorts should fit.

But, honestly you're asking for a really tall order for no hitting. If you're including monsters, aliens, robots, etc... then you're going to want to do a Wiki read on the individual episodes. Super Friends weren't allowed to hit any characters, but they still had to do some kind of action.

My grandson watches the first season and he's only 22 months. He absolutely loves it. Just be careful exposing him to any of the Batman movies. I made the mistake of letting him watch Schumacher's Batman and Robin film for it's bright colors and childish lingo. Now he won't go hardly a day without demanding to watch some of it. Talk about feeling foolish. Lord help me... I have now likely seen B&R more than any other Batman film in my collection. And let me tell you. That's a very tough swallow.

My kids ate up the first season as tots. They were fantastic time killers too because of their running time.

I owe Wendy and Marvin for some quiet car rides.

                Hello Megotoys,
I am one of the THE foremost Super Friends fans you'll ever meet. I used to have a website called Will's Ultimate Super Friends Episode Guide and I am currently working on an ebook for kindle for amazon.com. It will be called the ULTIMATE SUPER FRIENDS COMPANION. If you ever have any questions about the Super Friends, feel free to contact me and I'll be glad to answer your questions. I will agree wholeheartedly with Earth 2 Chris and the others in that the original series from 1973 with Wendy and Marvin was definitely written for kids that are your son's current age. While I still watch them now and then, I agree with comics fans, that this season is definitely the least favorite season of comics fans and the Wendy and Marvin and especially the Wonder Dog scenes are all cringe inducing for adults. The plots are slow moving, lots of talk and discussion and less action. Plenty of moral messages, yet a little on the preachy side. But little bitty kids might get a kick out of Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog. Season two is the All New Super Friends Hour from 1977. I highly recommend this season, since that's what I started with when I turned 6 back then. The Wonder Twins are more fun and while I do not like Gleek at all, your son might. It's got an awesome format. 4 episodes an hour segment. 3 shorts and 1 half hour episode with faster moving plots and more interesting villains. There are plenty of health and safety tips in between the episodes. There are also craft and magic tricks and a decoder segment connected with the half hour episode. And the last short has a guest hero in it. All the seasons are good, but for a child your son's age, I would start them off with either season one for time killing filler, or season two The All New Super Friends Hour for more interesting and faster action plots. On the DVD extra features, Alan Burnett explained that the writers had to have the Super Friends doing things that kids could not imitate, so there's no need to worry about any hitting or punching going on in any Super Friends series.
I will post a complete Super Friends DVD discography on another post to help out. Hope this helps you out so far.
                Cheers.
