For free? If there is such a thing guaranteed that the Big Two will shut it down eventually, considering they operate their own
digital comics platforms.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging! -
No DC & Marvel that I know of free, but Comicbookplus.com has tons of public domain Golden & Silver age comics online, including
A bunch of Dell , Charlton, and others.Comment

Comixology.com is a digital site primarily for new comics, but there are some older Marvel and DC comics on there, but not the selection I'd like to see or what you're probably looking for, but there is enough to make it worth checking out.
You can read them on your PC, smartphone or tablet. You pay through a iTunes account.
Any new comic I buy, I'm getting digitally. They look great on an iPad or any tablet and you can buy them anywhere and they download almost instantly. And you have access to them wherever you tale your tablet, laptop or phone.
Generally each week Marvel and DC have a 99 cent sales.
I think DC and Marvel could make some nice ancillary cash if they would work on getting entire libraries on the site.
Think how cool it would be to be able to download golden and silver age books.
Over time, I'd buy every Superman and Batman issue from the 30s to the 50s if they were available. I've read most of the rest.Comment

Awesome site Don. If nothing else, it's worth a thirty second investment to browse the cover art.Comment

It's worth signing up, too. SO MANY comics.... I can almost slake my insane lust for old horror comics, and Archie clones.
I wish this was around way back when I was doing my thesis papers. It was insanely difficult to get access to old comics like this. I also appreciate that the DCM leaves the ads in. Really hyelps the ol' sense of perspective. (Like, the sheer voulume of ads for woman's underwear, trade school and baldness cures that littered comics in the 40's. Dunno for sure what it means.... but it means SOMETHING....)

Not sure about DC's offerings but here is the link for Marvel. They usually have some sales.
