    New Frontier

So what did everyone think of the movie? I was pretty impressed but thought it a bit short, they trimmed the stuff I expect them to trim but still left much of the impact in. Probably the best comic to movie tranistion I've seen.

I had problems with Batman's voice for some reason, maybe I'm just too used to Conroy. Lucy Lawless was great casting as Wonder Woman but I've just watched too much Xena....

I commented in BK's thread about the Best Buy exclusive, but I'll say it here again. I loved this movie. I didn't expect to. I thought I'd like it, but they really hit it out of the park. It was consistent with the best episodes of JLU, but it had a more cinematic feel about it. Could have been longer, although it seemed longer, just because of its scope and because of all the ground/characters it covered.

I haven't read the entire comic story. My comic shop at the time made me miss a few issues so I just decided to wait on the trade. Been waffling on it ever since (do I get the tpbs or the absolute?). But now I HAVE to read it. Cooke's style translated well, not surprising since him and Timm have much and common, and of course he worked on previous DCAU shows.

Great to see all the little easter eggs in there. I was picking out characters that weren't identified left and right. Great for the hardcore geeks, and it won't confuse the newbies.

I liked the Superman/Doomsday movie okay, but it seemed half-new and half-STAS, and that made it seem odd to me. This felt much fresher and more...whole. A complete package. I recommend it to any DC fans.

I must say after Watching the Movie,.. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a little more so hard core , than the previous offerings from Timm & Co. It also was quite enjoyable to sit back & Watch Hal Jordan,.. felt as if I was reading a Green Lantern Book. To see him activate his Pwr ring,.. was too cool, gave me those infamous "movie goosebumps". Some Great Action scene's with the Flash,.. always the Smart-A. Fans of Barry will be happy too. Seeing Aquaman in the "very brief" 2 minute scene was quite enjoyable as well. My only dissapointment was Hearing the Bat's voice. I thought it was horrible, & didn't match the character. Batmans lines were very well written, however I just couldn't buy on the voice. The Conroy Era has totaly ruined any chance of another Voice as Batman.

I was going to add this movie makes up for Hal getting the shaft on JL/JLU. He is the star of this story. Boreanez does a great job. So great, I found myself trying to mimic it while reading a Flash/GL story to my son last night after watching the movie.

I greatly enjoyed the movie and it felt like a movie instead of an extended episode.

They should have retained the sequence with Jonn at the movies, it would have quickly explained both the Challs and Jonn's superhero costume inspiration. Plus him laughing at the 50's space invader would have been a nice little bit.

I have not read the novel, but I loved this movie. I HAVE read Super Hero comics of the 50's, so it was neat to see some animated treatment of the DCU in that era. Starting off, it is definitely Hal Jordan's story more than anyone's and it feels more like Green Lantern: The Movie, especially since he doesn't become GL until near the finale. One thing I've discovered that I've never seen in animation, Hal Jordan with a younger sounding voice and with personality to boot.
J'onn J'onzz was well done, I especially loved how he would watch television and morph into the characters that he's watching in black and white, especially Bugs Bunny. Then there's Barry Allen: The Flash. I enjoyed how he felt he didn't fit in with the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman because he can only run fast.
Superman reminded me of the classic Fleisher Superman in terms of design and voice. Kyle McLachlan's voice made me think of the late Bud Collyer a little bit while Lucy Lawless was a pure natural for Wonder Woman.
Now we get down to my favorite hero. Batman. It was neat that he starts off with his 1939 look and how he changes it when Robin comes along with in a one or two year period. That one scene with Batman, Robin, and Superman brought back memories of the World's Finest comics I read of that era. As for Batman's voice, Jeremy Sisto was not bad, but he wasn't that great either. Then again, no one will be nearly as good as Kevin Conroy. But also, Batman was the most minor of the A listers in this movie, which I was not used to. Batman did have a Kevin Conroy like line when he spoke to Jonn Jonzz about a "book of matches".
As for other heroes, although their roles were non speaking, it was awesome to see the classic version of Green Arrow and Adam Strange in animation along with the Blackhawks and somebody said the men in purple were called Challengers of the Unknown. And last but certainly not least, what topped it all off, was the cameo made by Aquaman, which was approprate since he was the last of the founding members of the JLA. In terms of design and animation, the New Frontier reminded me a tad of the Classic Filmation DCU, especially with the eyes and eyebrow designs. And it slightly reminds me of the SuperFriends but only a little bit.
Overall, I was impressed and I'm hoping DC will make more movies like this one.
                Cheers.

i liked it quite a bit, i was glad they didn't add more Superman and Batman to make it more marketable--that would've been a choice i could have easily seen the WB making.

i wish it had been longer, but for what was there, they got the main story down with decent characterization and some scenes were astoundingly close to Cooke's art.

and bonus points for keeping the Aquaman cameo in!

isn't this group doing NTT: The Judas Contract next? i'd love to see maybe Kingdom Come, Batman Year One...

Seems like Judas Contract has gotten pushed back until at least after Batman: Gotham Knight and the Wonder Woman DTV movie. I hope they still plan on doing this one.

Kingdom Come is also a natural for this format.

If you liked the movie, get the book. Everything you mentioned is in the book, plus lots more including more on the Challengers, the Suicide Squad, the Losers. The design of most of the characters is pretty close to Cooke's art from the book. Wonder Woman seemed a bit off, tho.

I loved the movie. But about halfway through, I asked my husband how he felt about Batman's voice. When he asked why, the only explanation I could offer was, "I'm missing Kevin Conroy. To me, he IS what Batman sounds like."
