Timothy Dalton in the running for Alfred...

I could see that. This casting would place Alfred more in line with the classic comic depiction than what we've seen in movies.

Nice! Perfect casting in my opinion! Dalton would've made a cool Wayne in the day too.

I like Dalton and he would've been an excellent Batman in the 80s. I'm sure he could pull off the role if he wants.

While I'm generally a traditionalist, I'm beginning to enjoy the Batman Earth One version of Alfred from the graphic novel published two years ago and basically being used in the Beware the Batman cartoon.

From the 70s or early 80s, there was the notion added that Alfred had a secret service background and in the Earth One book, it's Royal Navy. It gave the character a version of street cred with readers. But I always had a hard time of that connecting with the guy who was dusting and making sandwiches and taking care of little kids.

But hey, If I can believe in Batman while I read a comic, that version of Alfred isn't too way out.

I do like the idea of Alfred being as much body guard and mentor to a young formative Bruce as butler. I mean the kid is worth millions if not billions of dollars. Certainly, some sort of security would have been employed. Maybe, Alfred started Bruce's physical and tactical training as a pre-teen with drills from his time as a marine. It would lay a good framework for his later training as Bruce went around the world seeking the knowledge of other masters.

Dalton would be just right for such a role. I always thought David Niven would have made a good Alfred.

Speaking of cleft chins, I always thought Kirk Douglas would have been a great Two-Face.

I think this is another traffic-driving rumor started by the same site that brought you the unconfirmed report that Bryan Cranston will be Lex Luthor.

From following Cosmicbooknews.com, I do think the site has some decent sources because it has been right too often to just be haphazardly throwing stuff against the wall. But it has also ultimately been wrong on a lot of things.

The traditional journalistic standard for publishing with an unnamed source is confirming the information with three sources before printing it, or getting the information from the absolute decision maker or someone so close to the situation you have no doubt that it is good. Even then good news reporting institutions will attempt to get other confirmation to back the source up. The idea is not to publish a story with an unnamed source. I'm positive the site isn't following such a stringent litmus test for publication because about every story it runs uses an unnamed source.

I take just about everything it reports is as a rumor unless a creditable news entity is also reporting the story. But I do enjoy reading the rumors.

While Cranston's casting is a rumor at this point, it doesn't mean that it's wrong. There are so many rumors that are true but not reported because locking down the facts with a source is impossible. Of course what is true today, may change by next week or next month.

Often reporters will know things they can't report because of a lack of confirmation.

Affleck is confirmed. WB issued a press release. Cranston and Dalton are pure speculation at this point. Cranston has told WB he's interested.
