    Before Wolverine had bone claws...

    ...they were mechanical!

    From "Days Of Future Past" storyline from the 1980's.

    Yeah, they were also bionic in the first X-Men movie as shown by this x-ray of his arm.

    I've been trying to figure out the mechanics of the things for years...in the movies, the claws are so large, there's no room for them to physically occupy the same space as his forearm bones. How do they slide out? There would need to be some kind of track to guide them, and how is Wolverine still able to move his wrists? They should be totally immobilized when the claws are out.

      Yep, the bone claws were a retcon from 1993.

      Never really liked the idea of bone claws.
      Always preferred the original notion that the claws and their mechanism were purely adamantium.

      (And originally, Len Wein just intended the claws to be part of Wolverine's gloves!)
