Maybe; but those folks are in their 20's or 30's now.

Everyone who grew up with Sonic the Hedgehog or Crash Bandicoot will b on board. Talking cgi animals will always sell tickets, even non talking ones. Mr Poppers Penguins made a profit, I think Guardians will be fine.Leave a comment:

>They have the advantage of creating new worlds and not telling a story within the confines of an Avengers, FF or X-men fueled film universe
To me, that would be a plus. But to filmmakers it's a liability. They want the big names so that there's less risk. Someone SOMEWHERE thinks the Guardians are all that.... I don't know who, but that's how these things happen.
I think the movie will do insanely well, or not insanely well. I don't think it'll flop. That's pretty hard to do. But it'll either strike a chord right off, or folkks will go see it ('cos everybody sees EVERYTHING any more) and think "Meh. It was okay."
>Given our current generation of kids, Rocket Raccoon is a can't miss character that will sell TONS of merch
...? I'm missing a step here....

That costume looks pretty bad-like rented from a fanboy. I'm not a NOVA fan but that just devalues the characters. It's not a question of conceptualization or interpetation. They should look sleek not overburdened and clunky. It's like when Shaque` was cast as Steel running around rooftops in heavy armor. I assume this guy is a foot soldier and doesn't fly like Nova Corps should? Throwing all this together in one film some characters get second class treatment.Leave a comment:

I think this movie will do HUGE numbers and will likely be the most successful Marvel venture outside of Avengers. This is very much a sci-fi, off earth story that is completely on it's own. There are rumors of Iron Man making a cameo, but I don't know how that happens. They have the advantage of creating new worlds and not telling a story within the confines of an Avengers, FF or X-men fueled film universe. This is Marvel's opportunity to turn completely unknown characters into household names. Given our current generation of kids, Rocket Raccoon is a can't miss character that will sell TONS of merch. Gunn is kind of a quirky film maker and will bring a wry sense of humor to this along with a dash of cool. This is going to sneak up on a lot of people I think.Leave a comment:

The fact it's a $200 million production might be what's missing. This looks like a fan-boy costume. Simply being able to surmise who this might be (with little or no personal attachment to the character) is not a reason to give it a passing grade for me. But then again, it's one of my favorite characters, so I'm going to want a little more bang for my buck. This monstrosity looks like Stark's SWAT team in space. The concept is way off the mark. Here's some visual prompts to illustrate:
Nova from the 70's...

Nova more present day...

Movie Nova...

Looks like Judge Dredd and Iron Man had a kid...
I was thinking more like Brainiac. That's what the three little circles remind me of.Leave a comment:

^Well, that's a good point there with the Kree. If they wanted cosmic, why not go to Captain Marvel? It would be a real slap in DC/Warner's face to boot, since they won't be able to call a movie Captain Marvel anyway.
Too many Captains, with Steve Rogers already on board for the Marvel Movie Universe?

>Seems odd to think Dr. Strange is taking a back seat to these guys
Yeah. It almost feels like they're trying to expand the brand with some of the lesser properties. Hell; the Kree were in the Avengers cartoon....

^I honestly don't get this either. I'm not against it, but it just seems an odd choice, since all the previous Marvel Studios films have been based on the core concepts from the 60s. Before this modern team, Guardians of the Galaxy was only a marginal blip on the MU radar, with the 90s series being the only real time they had a permanent home. Seems odd to think Dr. Strange is taking a back seat to these guys, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

>I'm still trying to understand why a Guardians of the Galaxy movie is even being made...
Agreed. It's a weird choice, even if you're going the space opera marketing route; especially considering the mishmosh the team is. Groot? Rocket? Weird....
>Looks like Judge Dredd and Iron Man had a kid
Haw! Yeah.... This is a tricky one 'cos the actual Nova Corps from the comic are pretty generic looking. Tights, Magneto's helmet with a different crest, Thor nipple guards.... It's difficult to fudge that into a film.
>Guardians will fail at the box office.
Doubtful. Most big budget movies make a good chunk of cash, regardless. Folks will go see it as long as something blows up.

Looks like standard foot soldiers to me dime a dozen officers. Nova I think would look totally different.....I wouldn't sweat it....It's not a Nova movie.....Leave a comment:
