    MJ cut from Spidey 2

When I first saw the picture accompanying the article, my first reaction was actually, "Wait, that's who they cast for Mary Jane!" Either way she's out of TASM2

UPDATED: Despite shooting a handful of scenes as Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Shailene Woodley will not be appearing in the superhero sequel after all, the studio confirms. The Mary Jane character – the most famous of Peter Parker’s comic book love interests – will instead be pushed to the third film so that the rebooted franchise can focus on the relationship between Peter (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) first established in 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man. “I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship,” [...]

Methinks they had to cut MJ out to make more screen time available for all the frikkin' lame-arse villains who are going to be in the movie. Man, this thing has "train wreck" written all over it....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

        ^Oh ye of little faith...

I'm thrilled they dumped MJ...I've always liked Gwen better.

The character of MJ used to be so hot, I was smitten by a comic book character...

...then Kirsten Dunst came along, and shattered my dreams of a hot MJ forever, argh.

Emma Stone on the other hand, cute as a button, as Gwen Stacy.

Makes sense... the next movie needs to further the Peter/Gwen relationship before that relationship ultimately reaches its tragic and inevitable conclusion.

Woodley had reportedly only shot three scenes that were supposed to be a part of the film, but director Marc Webb confirmed the report and explained the decision to THR by saying:

“I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”

Woodley also commented on the news when she told EW:

"Of course I'm bummed, but I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. … Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film."

                  Hmmmm....

Ironic, since the big scene from the first of the last Spidey films was essentially the death of Gwen, without the death. Or Gwen.

The poor girl got eviscerated by the fan press when pictures leaked out. The cynic in me wonders if that had anything to do with it? They could quietly recast between 2 & 3...

Not a big fan of Marc Webb. Spider-man was a project Sony chased him down to do. And I think him stating he never had any great desire to do these types of movies shows. He's completely messed up the morality of Spiderman. And since he was never really a fan, he doesn't seem to know what to do with some of the most iconic of characters. His decision to yank MJ from the script is a great example. He's very wishy-washy with his ideas and this film looks like a side story before they go into Gwen's death for part III. Not a fan of someone handling a story like this who is not a big fan to begin with.
