OK, wow, Man of Steel was something else. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Very tempted to call it the best super hero movie ever, but I know that's probably me just being on some kind of Kryptonian geek high right now.
David Goyer perhaps gave Superman the greates gift they could receive with the script and Zac Snyder took what Goyer wrote and really delivered an excellent movie.
The film takes bits and pieces from many of the various Supeman incarnations and mixes thouse bits and pieces to perfection, while adding a few twists to really give the film some zing. Huge Sci-Fi angle to the movie and some of those early tweets about Lois Lane not having a key role in the film, well, those folks must have had a extended stay in the John. Folks who have read Alan Moore's Marvelman series will also recognize the impact that work had on Goyer. But the influences go on fron Seigle and Shuster to John Byrne and Alex Ross to Morrison and Johns to Mark Waid and Kurt Busiek.
Goyer knows His Superman, and anyone who was offended by his short story where it seemed he had Superman renounce his Americanism, well there is a great scene which could serve as a Mea culpa.
Cavil is great in the role and Amy Adams is solid. Shannon, Costner, Lane and Crowe were all excellent in the film.
I don't know how the generalublic will respond to the movie, but The more you know and like Superman - unless you are demanding strict adhearance to a specific incarnation - the more you should appreciate the film.
That being said if you want to nitpick the movie., like with any fantasy film you can. But try to reframe from doing that and enjoy the movie. All involved did their best to deliver with this movie, and to me they did.
