    Filmation Flash Gordon question

Today I found Filmations The adventures of flash gordon at the dollar general. I was excited until I got home and found out that it only included the first 14 episodes on two disc. Is there another "volume" with the rest available, or would I have to try and hunt down the COMPLETE series? It doesnt look cheap: like $30 or so.

I hate when that happens I'm afraid i'll start watching it and have a fit wanting to watch the rest of the episodes.

To be honest, the first season is the best, a great SF / Sword & Planet serial that almost perfectly captured the classic strip. From what I understand, it was originally planned as a prime-time miniseries in the vein of Shogun or The Thorn Birds and was to air for an hor or two each night for several nights.

Second season was a Saturday morning kids' show, with everything simplified, kiddified, and basically dumbed-down. it was OK, but even as a kid, I noticed the steep drop in it.

You've got the good episodes, so no worries.

There was also an animated film version by Filmation, Flash Gordon: The Greatest Adventure of All which starts out with Germany attacking Poland. Apparently, Ming was supplying Hitler with advanced technology, which is an idea that's been used countless times since then. Unfortunately, this version's never been released, although it's on YouTube.

Thats good to know. This is one Filmation series I have no recollection of. I barely remember Zorro/Lone Ranger. I did watch Mighty Mouse/Heckle and Jeckle though. This series probably goes back a year before those. Just for completist sake I would still like to get the others but I'm glad to have the best ones.

I've heard this one is really good. I started to watch it once but it was choppy on my computer. Its amazing what DOESNT make it to dvd. I remember a friend telling me about it in the early eighties. Apparently, It use to play on some of the cable channels back then.

Yeah, I remember something in Starlog magazine back then about that -- apparently, a lot of that was stuff for the miniseries and got cut so they could jump right to Mongo when they changed it to a Saturday morning serial. Never seen any of it besides stills -- I'll have to go look on YouTube!

I saw it when it originally aired and it was just so much better than the series (which is great).
