It's about: "TO-MORROW, TO-MORROW, I LOVE YA TOMORROW...." ad infinitum!

I'm not saying they'll even have that song in the new movie... BUT.... you can be sure that's why they're talking about it in the first place!

Same deal with THE WIZ... it wasn't the Baum book that kept that baby alive, I assure you... it was "SOMMMMMME-WHERE OHHHHHH VER THE RAINBOW..."

I think in terms of Jay-Z and Will Smith pitching a movie to people for funding, this makes sense. The people with money seem to always be looking for a new angle on something old that was huge - and even if it doesn't have brand recognition for kids the investors recognize it.

These things just sometimes work really well, and it makes little sense to me. I would have bet that no kids knew what a Smurf was, but that was a smash hit. I think a big aspect to this is coming up with stuff the parents will recognize - I think that might even have more value than kids recognizing these brands.

I honestly can't see an all black Annie doing that fantastically, and kind of half expect this project to go no where, but I've been very very wrong many times.

In stage theatre there is a term called non traditional casting, where the performer that has the most talent for the role is cast regardless of what it says in the script. So, for example, if FF was a stage play, you could have Sue and Johnny be brother and sister with no script doctoring about adoption, etc. This is something that I have no problem with, as said above, if the script is worth watching. Now Hollywood casting someone just to create a buzz is wrong to me, but someone casting the best person (in the director's opinion) I am ok with. It is like with any reboot, you have to decide for yourself if you will accept a new rock star version of Jim Kirk, a female Starbuck, or a 're-imagined Human Torch.

I'm with you. My ONLY concern with casting a black actor as Torch is that they'll feel in necessary to concoct and then squeeze in some boring explanation. If he's just black and nobody says anything I would have no problem with that. Provided the actor doesn't do a terrible job.

Actually, several musical have been reworked to feature black casts: Timbuktu/Kismet, & Hello, Dolly, notably. And lets not forget The Wiz.

Every Sunday my wife gets up super early and watches Ballywood movies - it's unreal how many are twisted remakes or shameless rip-offs. Of the ones I caught my absolute favorite was the Back to the Future rip-off. Sooooo crazy, it's beyond belief.
