Breaking news: Official super friends dvd announced!

I recently posted the unannounced DVD release of the World's Greatest SuperFriends. Well, yesterday, Warner Bros has officially announced that another season of the SuperFriends is coming to DVD on July 23rd. The retail cost is $19.97 and this comes from TV Shows on DVD. The title they're using is the World's Greatest SuperFriends, but the season being released is the 1980 season of shorts. This season was originally known as the SuperFriends Hour. It will be a single disc containing all 24 shorts from the 1980 season. The box art again consists of the artwork by Super Powers artist Jose Garcia Lopez and it has Superman, Batman, Robin, and Wonder Woman on the front cover. That unofficial release of season 4 with Target must have sparked some interest for WB to announce the release of season 5. Look under the World's Greatest SuperFriends on www.tvshowsondvd.com to see this news. Hopefully, we'll get seasons 6 and eventually an official season 4 release down the road. This release is being called SuperFriends: A Dangerous Fate.

Wow, these releases make absolutely no sense, but hey, I'll take them! The 1980 season is when they started naming the "ethnic" Super Friends in the opening, right? I bet the Riddler episode is the one where he makes them dumb.

    Thanks again for the tip!

Earth 2 Chris. You're more than welcome and you are correct on both parts. This is the season where Black Vulcan, Samaraui, and Apache Chief are added to the intro and this is the season where you see Hawkman and Hawkgirl flying in the intro. They would be replaced by El Dorado in 1981. The episode you are referring to is called "Around the World in 80 Riddles" where the Riddle sprays them with "stupid spray". When Robin spoke in the stupid voice, Casey Kasem used his Shaggy voice. "Anti what? You gotta stop using those big words Wonder Woman." And yes, that episode will be on this set. All we'll be lacking will be the abbreviated 1981 season that introduced El Dorado, which I'm hoping won't be too far away from DVD release.
      Hope this helps.
