^I'd say it stopped because the toyline was cancelled. The show only came back because of the Super Powers brand launch.

@filmation batman fan (or anyone eles who might know): Why did they stop after Galactic Guardians?

Back when I was a kid (and everyone talked about these important topics in school ) One of the explanations was that when they changed animation it became more expensive that they original thought and they were trying to compete with Heman, lol.

These days I figure it was because of Crisis and restructuring its brand
I honestly don't know why it ended there. Your guess is about as good as mine. It could be because the Super Powers Toyline got cancelled or it might be the Crisis on Infinte Earths. Then again, production costs might have played a hand in it. I recall when the Super Powers Team left the air, so did Scooby Doo and my watching cartoons on Saturday morings ended for me. Back then, I wished that Aquaman, Green Lantern, Hawkman, and especially the Flash could have had more active roles to go along with Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Firestorm, Cyborg, and Samarui.

This is my favorite season, barring Challenge and Galactic Guardians. This season seemed more interested in just straight action stories, albeit with many have a literary twist.

I think WGS sorta works with the Mego line to. You got pirates and knights and (if you were an inventive kid back then) evil customs of the superfriends.

Thanks for the heads-up and info filmation batman fan!

Not being an iTunes-savvy guy, I suppose I'll have to wait for an unpromoted DVD exclusive (or the kindness of strangers) for these seasons.

6: 1980 shorts. The SuperFriends Hour. Not available on DVD but is available for download on itunes. This is season five. Total of 24 shorts.

7: 1981 shorts. Abbreviated season that introduces El Dorado. Not available on DVD but is available for dowload on itunes. This is season six. Total of 18 shorts.

Superfriends ended because Hanna-Barbera was collapsing.

They weren't a part of WB at the time, which happened after the merger with Turner, after he bought 50% of HB in '91.

It doesn't really even exist anymore. Which is just another stupid move on WB's part.

Thanks to filmationbatmanfan's tip, I picked this up today. Typical clueless WB put the Jose Luis Garcia Lopez style guide art from 4 years later on the cover, but hey, I'm just glad to have it!

They also had Young Justice DVDs for $9.99. You could choose from Season 1 volumes 1, 2, or 3, OR get the 3-pack DVD for the same price! Guess which one we bought...?

I've written ebooks for Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League (Unlimited) and a friend of mine, who helped publish these reports wrote one on Batman: The Animated Series. Anyway, I'm turning my attention on the SuperFriends. It's my all time favorite. It was a series that kept coming back for nearly a decade. My website "Will's Ultimate SuperFriends Episode Guide" had to be taken down due to the rising costs of web hosting, so my kindle report will cover everything from all the series to the 47 issue comic book series, toylines, and more.
Anyway, here's what all there is on the SuperFriends:

1: 1973 Original series with Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog. This series is available on 2 DVD sets. 2 discs each. Warner Home Video calls them "SuperFriends: Season One Volume One and Season One Volume Two. Total, 16 hour long episodes

2: 1977 The All New SuperFriends Hour variety show introducing the Wonder Twins. This series is available on 2 DVD sets. Warner Home Video calls them The All New SuperFriends Hour Season One Volume One and Season One Volume Two. Realistically, this is season two. Total of 60 episodes including half hour and seven minute shorts.

3: 1978 Challenge of the SuperFriends with the Legion of Doom. This was part of season three. Warner Home Video released this series first. It's called Challenge of the SuperFriends: The Complete First Season. It's a two disc set. Total of 16 half hour episodes.

4: 1978 second season with the Wonder Twins. Part of season three. This was the second series Warner Home Video released. A 2 disc set called SuperFriends: The Complete Second Season. Total of 16 half hour episodes.

5: 1979 The World's Greatest SuperFriends. This is the third season with the Wonder Twins. And this is season four. The shortest season Hanna Barbera made. only eight half hour episodes. Just released on DVD on a single disc as a Target Exclusive. Again, the total is 8 half hour episodes.

8: 1982 or 1983 shorts This is the lost season of shorts, and this would be season seven. SuperFriends The Lost Episodes is released on DVD on a two disc set.
                          Total of 24 shorts.

9: 1984 SuperFriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show the series that introduces Firestorm and Darkseid. Released on DVD on a two disc set. Total of 16 episodes 15 minutes in length including the 2 parters.

10: 1985 Super Powers Team Galactic Guardians The final series with Cyborg. Animation style changed. Available on DVD on a two disc set. Total of 10 episodes. 4 episodes 15 minutes in length and 6 half hour episodes.

About 90% of the SuperFriends series are now on DVD. All we're lacking are 2 seasons of shorts from 1980 and 1981. Altogether, counting all series, all hour shows, half hour shows, 15 minute episodes (including 2 parters) and 7 minute shorts, Hanna Barbera produced a total of 208 episodes between 1973 and 1985.

                          Anyway, hope this helps.

Nice! I'm waiting on the last dvd's!!

The third episode features Batman with a lightsaber. My son's head exploded. Gotta love that late 70s Star Wars rip off.

I was able to find it at the first Target I stopped at. Quick note: Expect wider availability on this in a few months. The "exclusive at Target" sticker expressly says for a limited time. That usually means they have a few month window of exclusivity then everyone gets it. That what happened with "exclusive" James Bond blu-rays.
