How do I quit new comics?

I recently got a tablet. A Google Nexus 7. It's amazing. I downloaded an app called Comic Rack and I actively sought out old comics from the 70's and 80's that I always wanted to read and I'm doing that. Stuff like Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, The New Teen Titans, Web of Spider-man.

I have enough to keep me busy for a long time to say the least. I'm actually thinking of quitting new comics. For awhile. How do I do that? I'd hate to just go to the comic store and tell the guy I've been buying books from for like a decade that I don't want new comics (Saga excluded and maybe All New X-Men). I guess I could still buy back issues from him. I like owning physical copies of the classics.

It's a very confusing time for me where this hobby is concerned.

It's difficult at first but becomes increasingly easy as time passes and our favorite publishers keep cranking out crap. I quit cold one month and haven't looked back. You could still buy stuff from your shop, just not new books. You'll be surprised how much more money you have at the end of the month by eliminating the monthlies. I'm sure the shop owners have already felt the dollar squeeze from people like me who refuse to buy mothnly books after decades of patronage.

Bottom line, just let out a primal scream and rip the bandaid off the hariest part of your body. You'll feel better after trust me.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

That is awesome advice! Thank you so much. I can still buy back issues to complete runs of old series that I once loved. He'll still get my money but not as much of it. Hopefully it will send a message to DC and Marvel that I'm tired of the bs. I don't hate everything they do, but I can't get excited over it anymore either.

I can't argue that logic. Nor will I try to. More money for Batman 66 figures!

If he has a quarter or "cheap" bin, give it a look. Since you have a little extra to spend this would give you a chance to try something different you normally wouldnt read or over look. You could even possible find a independent series on the cheap that you can get into.

I bought a few new comics a few weeks ago and regretted it....I quit 5 years ago. but I buy Back issues from the 70's and 80's a much happier time for me.....dollar bins are the best way to go.

I just got to the point where most of what I read was garbage. I just tried getting into Aquaman and WW from the new 52 from the library. DC ensured that I won't start reading again. Thank you DC.

I read the first 3-4 issues from the new 52...and it was very easy to stop. I now just buy collected HC. Invincible and The Walking Dead....other then that I enjoy my books I have. I love my 80's comics...I get bored or want something to read I bring out my Jon Sable's, Blue Beetle, Blue Devil, Justice League, Vigilante, Teen Titans (original/Baxter), Old Dan Dare, 1950's Buck Roger strips, and my Gold Key/Dell Phantom books....DC actually put out some great books in the 80's and almost all of them can be found in the dollar bin. I ended up filling in a bunch of holes and grabbing tons of books and complete runs from Brett's Comics Pile when he was open. Can't beat .99 cent comics in NM/M condition and free shipping over $20....I must have bought 5-6 long boxes worth of books off of him when he was up and running. Nothing out there today even can compare. Sad really so many great characters out there are not getting there due.
                  Thanks ~ Jase

When I quit 4 years ago, it was after hopping among several comic shops and getting really disappointed with the service, and honestly with the comics themselves. I then signed up with Charlie here, who mailed me my books and gave me great service, but the month between new books made me realize how much I really disliked the direction of most of them. I gave Charlie a head's up that I'd be cancelling my pulls, and when those ran out...that was it. I never looked back, and I've had a lot more fun money to pull the trigger on.

If I decide to try the new 52 again in the future, it will be in trades and will be bought used from Amazon. I am intrigued by the new Shazam, I gotta admit. I didn't follow the backup story in JL, but it's being collected and released in September. I might grab that out of curiosity, but DC will not get a cent from me on monthly titles.

I have slowly been weening myself off of all the DC titles. The guy at my LCS has told me that he, himself, cannot stand to read things like the new JL, but overall he says his sales have increased. My kids love reading the Peanuts and Spongebob and some of the other KaBoom titles, so most of my pull list is stuff for the kids. I still get some Star Trek titles, too. Still have Superman and Action Comics on my list, but it is getting tough.
                          It's all good!

I went into the comic store and told them that I was no longer going to buy them from their store and to toss away my box. I was getting a cheaper deal but told them I still would come back to buy books here and there (you don't always have to). Most comic stores know their business is doomed unless they offer up other things like figures, hoodies and sports stuff (like our local store). Since comic books don't really have anymore value the digital age has been more or less taking the place of a new book release anyway.

Within last month or so a friend gave me boxes of comic series (his brother passed) of old Avengers, Defenders, Hulk, Amazing Spiderman, Adventure Comics, Uncanny X-men and Justice League. His family knew my obsession with super heroes (it's apparent when you walk into my living room and all of the Megos on shelves) All though I may sell those because I already have most of them (and more in digital form) sometimes it's nice to kick back with a classic.

Unfortunately selling them later on may be an option due to the fact of space issues and I don't want to hear my woman complain about no more room in the storage area. All though she does not run the house she does have an opinion Anyone want to talk Avengers & Defenders PM me. No place like the future I guess. Only because I have read all of those.

Of Dc books I still do the main Batman title & Suicide Squad. Before 52 I did alot more but can't get into the new direction or same looking costumes of the books I use to enjoy. I cut back on alot of Marvel as well. I was honest with my main comic dealer & told him exactly why. While he wasnt happy about losing $, he did understand. Said he knew it was coming when I went from over $50 per week to less than $50 per month.
