    Harvey comics question

Since '91 or so Harvey comics havent been published. I was wondering who currently holds the copyright (my quick search didnt come up with an answer). I did find that there IS a comic in digital form still being released with a revamped Richie Rich, not sure about Casper and a few of the others.

Is there a way to find out or tell if any of the Harvey material is public domain or will be in the near future? (meaning their popular characters of course.)

I think Harvey still owns the classic characters. They have done several direct to video Capser movies, etc in the last decade or so. Not a lot of activity recently, but I think they still have all the right sewn up.

      From Harvey Comics - Wikipedia:

      Classic Media
Montgomery was ousted from HCE in 1997, and in 2001,[7] the company sold its Harvey properties and rights to the Harvey name to Classic Media.[8]

The rights to Sad Sack, Black Cat, and certain other Harvey characters are still owned by Alan Harvey, and have been published under the names of Lorne-Harvey Publications and Re-Collections. In late 2000, Alan Harvey sued Steve Geppi over his 1984 acquisition of the Sad Sack original art, charging that Geppi had plundered Harvey's warehouses. Geppi countersued, claiming that he had legal title to the original art. The suit was settled in late 2002; at the time of the settlement, the New York Supreme Court had dismissed Harvey's claims against Geppi. The settlement agreement allowed Geppi to keep the art, with no money changing hands.

In 2007, Dark Horse Comics published a few volumes of Harvey Comics Classics, featuring the Harvey Girls, Baby Huey, Hot Stuff, Richie Rich, and Casper. In 2010, the company began publishing Harvey Comics Treasuries.

      DreamWorks Animation
In 2012, animation studio DreamWorks Animation purchased Harvey Comics parent company Classic Media, for $155 million.

Thanks for the info. Sadly, it looks like Harveys characters have been all over the place to.

Interested that there is some treasury editions. I've been wanting to read some Richie Rich for awhile now.

            Hmmmm....

Someone put out an updated version of a few of the characters a couple years ago; but I don't think much came of it.

The Harvey catalogue is so damned huge and diverse that I bet it'd take a lifetime to sort out who owns what. Especially when you consider how many characters have been licensed out.

            >Black Cat, B-Man, Jigsaw

Someone owns Black Cat.... I THOUGHT it was Marvel. And I seem to recall someone put out more Jigsaw stuff a few years back too.

....and reading that article; WHY is there SO MUCH interest in Sad Sack?!?!?

            >I've been wanting to read some Richie Rich for awhile now.

I think every comic shop on Earth sells 'em by the pound. (That's where I get mine from.)
