    Hanna-Barbera & Warner Archive

I'd love to get some of the titles at Warner Archive, but 25-30 apiece, and then the inability to rip them to an external drive is just a killer.

I'm building a video jukebox for my kids, (and me), and I want to put the more obscure Alex Toth stuff in the mix, like Space Kiddettes, but they put some bizarre encryption on certain discs that makes it near-impossible to pull. Then, the digital download seems to have more DMR issues latched onto it so you can't move it off your main computer.

Odd thing is that it doesn't hold for all discs. I was able to get it to work for Legends of the Superheroes and Green Slime. I'm going to give it a run with the new Shazam set, which would be cool to mix with Isis.

    Hmmmm....

Yeah; those are some legit problems. I've lucked out and haven't had any problems with playing them.... so far. I've heard from a few folks about problems with the security features.

It's a little more time consuming but if you have a DVD/VCR combo you should be able to transfer a VHS tape then back to standard recordable DVD, which you can then do whatever you want with.

They do funny things though; so a lot of trial and error is involved. I've got one, and the security reader is REAL touchy.... I've had it refuse to record off tapes I've made MYSELF. It's hard to find a good one.... like maybe a used industrial one.... 'cos there isn't a big market for them. (I've been trying to come up with some ad-hoc gain control I could splice into the thing, but my electronic skills aren't quite up to the task.) Most folks are happy with whatever new stuff comes down the pike, and aren't worried about archiving old things. One of the nice things about the "print on demand" disk services like the WB Archive, or TCM is that it makes good copies of things that would normally disappear readily avaialable.
