On "Superman" (replacing Kurt Busiek)! Hopefully a return to "Starman" will be in the future as well. I really really hope so...one of my favorite titles EVER!

uggh, they are going to waste him on Superman? Usually Superman writers seem a bit constrained by editorial policy to be able to do anything different or groundbreaking. Hope he is allowed to tell stories like he can. His Starman was rich in DCU history. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
I stopped picking up Superman during Busiek's run....I usually like his stuff but the Superman was "ennnh". I'll pick it up initially to see what Robinson's got up his sleeves.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

I've started re-reading my issues of Starman. I'm on issue 5, the first Talking With David.
I have most of all the issues. Plus a seperate stack of Talking With David and Times Past issues (in chronological order, of course!)
Have you gotten the trade paperbacks? Is there any extra material that would make it worthwhile to get in addition to/on top of the regular, individual issues? I never thought to get the trades for an introduction, unless there was some special features...
I read Busiek's run on JLA with the Crime Syndicate. That was more of a "Wh-huh?"Shameless self-promotion -

DC is starting a Starman omnibus series, so you may want to save your cash for that Airdave.
Starman is probably my favorite comic SERIES of all time. It had a finite life span, and was consistently good throughout. I'm glad Robinson got to end it properly, but man, I really miss it. I was there from Zero Hour-on, for the whole ride, and was singing its praises before it was "cool". One of the best comic series ever, bar none.

It looks like Robinson had some time on his hands with the film/tv writer's strike.
Hopefully there is still a long run on Superman even now that the strike is resolved.
Anyone read his Ultra Humanite Versus Superman story?
I would love to see Robinson get another shot at Hawkman to get that character back on track.Comment

Are there any extras in the Omnibus? Or is it just the first 16 issues?
Shameless self promotion deaprtment: check out Comic Book Encyclopedia, Database and Forums: Comicvine.com. I've been re-reading Starman issue by issue and trying to post a review there. If you would like to share some thoughts, I'd certainly like to read them (please, be kind and gentle). You may have to sign up as a Hero, or Villain, if you like. So far I'm up to Starman 5, the first Talking With David. I'm reading issue 6, The Shade's Times Past issue.
I haven't read the Ultra-Humanite story.
Didn't Hawkman become a combination or an Amalgam of Carter Hall and Katar Hol? I remember reading Robinson and Goyer on JSA with Kendra merged with Shiera/Shayera.
I like the idea that Hawkman was consistent through both the Golden Age and Silver Age as a consultant to the Justice League. That sounds pretty cool.
Katar Hol was an interesting character, but I don't think much was done with him other than to make him just like J'onn J'onzz, Hal Jordan, Adam Strange and just about every other cosmic character brought to Earth to fight crime. I know he came to Earth chasing Byth and like the place and decided to stay. I kind of liked Robinsons approach, kinda like Starman with Times Past like reincarnation stories. I have both of those. Better than the Hawkgirl: One Year Later mess.Shameless self-promotion -

With Steve Gerber's death this week, I was reminded of the fact that the idea of tying the reincarnation angle into the alien aspect originated in Gerber's Hawkman proposal that eventually become Void Indigo, a graphic novel and short lived series published by Epic Comics in the eighties.
With Tony Harris wrapping up Ex Machina (and it looks like he's found time to do a Spiderman mini in addition), here is hoping that he hooks up again with Robinson to do that "Starman in Japan" mini/OGN that has been bandied about over the years.
I'm also hoping that Robinson can pull Shade out of obscurity once again somehow.Comment
