I love secret identities. I love the skeleton in the closet angle. You have to be careful how you act or what you do when you are being yourself. It's great fun to read.

Is there some laziness by eliminating them? Yeah probably. It's a time saver if Steve Rogers is always Captain America. The way it went down in the movie, Steve was something of a celebrity after the Super Soldier project. Thus everyone knew who he was. In his case, I don't mind that. The guy doesn't age. If he's been Steve Rogers since the 40's there are going to be questions. Unless of course he is forced to adopt a new Id every decade or so. Which in itself would be interesting.

I hate the Donald Blake/Thor dynamic. Much like I hate the Capt Marvel Jr/Freddy Freeman dynamic. If I was Freeman, I would just be Capt Marvel Jr ALL THE TIME. Then just change clothes when I was done being a super hero for the day. I'm cool with no secret ID for Thor.

I really hated when they outed Spider-man. That was a terrible idea. He needs the secret id.

Oh that p*ssed me off something terrible. I read the registration storyline and that killed it for me. The whole point of why Parker became Spider-man was to offer protection for those he cared about. Him giving that up was the very antithesis of what he was all about. It didn't fit on any level. I thought that was the dumbest, most illiterate piece of storytelling ever introduced into the comic world. And it was so poorly done, they had to destroy his world to get him out of it. And I thought they had ruined Spiderman with the clone stories. Jeez. And to think those morons got paid to write such garbage. Embarrassing.

^Yes, that Spidey storyline was the pits. The same Spider-Man who ran from a fight with Sandman when his mask ripped WAY back in the early ASM issues. And then he saw visions of his identity being exposed, and what it meant for Aunt May, etc. That character would NEVER reveal his ID like that. Total garbage.

Now that they've figured out how to do good super hero movies, it harder for the comics to seem relevant......I think that's part of it. Comic format is nearly the same as story boards, I don't ever hear of anyone really wanting to read one of those.
