Well, here's the panel. I know virtually nothing about the character except this seems out of character. Gimmick or meaningful storyline? So, just like Dredd, you be the judge...
If they were gonna be edgy that crappy artist should have drawn him giving him a full on BJ IF they were gonna go that way........Euro men kiss each other BFD (maybe not on the lips)...lol
>You can't look at the original costume design of leather and chains and not see a fetishistic edge there.
HAW! I'd never thought of that. 'Cept the Judge costume is too functional for proper fetish wear.
>"But Dredd's feeling are so deeply hidden, he is extremely unlikely to ever let them show."
That's actually a good point. I think it runs into the problem of making Dredd an ACTUAL character, which he's not.
>even the Brits have figured out how to crap on years and years of continuity
I think it's best to withold judgement before reading the actual sotry; for a few reasons. First is that this pic tells us NOTHING of the story.... that Judge might not be Dredd; that might not be the Judge talking in the narration, we have no sense of context at all.... it'd be like refusing to buy a 1960's Batman comic 'cos the cover says he dies in this issue.
Also; even if Dredd IS gay, I'd be willing to read the story and see how it plays out. They did something like this in the last Grimjack miniseries, and it added some interesting ideas to the character. I think for Dredd though it has the same risk as the "big changes" they do in superhero comics: all hype, all bluster, goes away and doesn't matter. Especially for good ol' Joe; a character who's whole CHARACTER is that his feelings are so repressed they died of neglect years ago. They did something like this in the early 90's, when Dredd was shown to be getting old and burned out. It WAS an interesting angle, but one that couldn't be sustained in a perpetual book.
I am curious to read the story 'cos I'm curious about it's in-continuity ramifications. I've never thought of it before; but would being gay matter in Mega City 1?
As for crapping on continuity; a perpetual comic is a perpetual comic the world over; the Brits have doctored up their characters as readily as the Americans, and for all the same reasons. Here's a couple examples:
