    The evolution of Superman's "S"

Very informative. I think the Earth 2 Superman's variations got snubbed a bit, but that's just me.

I always liked the E2 Superman emblem used in the 70s. One of my favorite comics is the issue of Action Comics where he and Lois were married. Great Lopez cover based on another great cover from the 1950s.

^Oh yeah, that's a good one. Great story too.

I touched a little on the Earth 2 "S" in my recent Back Issue article (in issue #62). I think the first time the Earth 2 Superman was depicted with a different, retro S-shield was in that great JSA team pin-up Murphy Anderson did in one of the later JLA giant issues.

Very informative. You have to figure Earth 2 Superman's shield was there but he used the shields between 1938 to 1953 if you think about it. My dream is to see him come back and beat the **** out of that fake wishy washy 52 Superman! Any bets?

Hey, nice work Cat. At this point, I'd like the Earth-One Superman to return. He's the only who hasn't come back as of yet.

Right. I would be happy with the DC Universe that up and vanished right before 52. Maybe have them turn up on one of those Earths so that writers can keep writing and keep that 52 crap for the new generation.
Remember Wally West and Donna Troy? They just vanished. Poof!

Nice art. The next panel could be E2 knocking N52 out of continuity.

Chris, I have yet to pick up that issue, but am looking forward to it.

Nice post. It's amazing how many variations on the symbol are out there, but when I think about it, I wonder how many artist are able to draw it PERFECT. I use to sometimes try to learn to draw it by memory and it never came out perfect.

I kinda like the earliest versions myself along with the Fleisher version. I'm going to save these for future reference.

^I'd say Jose Luis Garcia Lopez comes closest, since he's done the majority of DC' style guide/licensing art for the past 31 years.

I always tend to make the "hook" at the top of "S" perpendicular, like Chris Reeve's version.

I've always like Bruce Timm's version.

I have a warm spot for the Golden age versions especially the Fleisher version, and I absolutely Love the George Reeves version....
