Anyone still holding on to the old "Aquaman is lame" business really needs to get a new joke.

I think that's the point of the article. That; and it's tough to peg what it is that makes Aquaman unique. I agree with both. Aquaman's always felt like an "also ran." He's there, but he's never stood out. Even the dark, gritty one happened AFTER the dark, gritty Namor got some press.

Namor never appealed to me...and certainly not as a hero. Aquaman has always been one of my Top 3 favorite super-heroes since the Filmation re-run days (back before The Super Friends began)...

Gotta agree with the end of the article. They should have followed the Brave and the Bold cartoon version.

Aquaman is one of my faves I don't get why people always pull this **** about him being a joke. That crap Brave and the Bold cartoon didn't help his image too well either.

Brave and Bold was a great cartoon and the depiction of Aquaman with an overcompensating personality was brilliant and funny. Everybody knows somebody with personality traits like that. The episode where he and his family take a vacation was hilarious and one anyone could relate to.

As far as the jokes in other media, who cares. It's all in fun. There are jokes about every other such character popular enough for a wide audience to get the joke. Are their more about Aquaman? Sure, but at least he's recognizable.

The current comic is one of the best super hero books on the market and if a JLA movie gets made , Aquaman is supposed to be a part of it. To me, the character's worth speaks for itself.

I've always liked Aquaman alot, I did wish Superfriends showed him more.

He's a challenge to write for but I hope someday he's finally given a chance in film.

Aquaman is still out there, & kids like him--he's accessible & engaging. Imaginext proves that. My friend's 5-year-old loves him: that speaks volumes.

Heck, I love him, despite some of the ways he's been written. He's my favorite hero.

I think the article is spot-on. I do like the new comic, but the condescending posturing mentioned is apparent in some issues. It does break the "fourth wall", you would never see that in a Batman comic.

Regarding B&B, I love that show. I was put off by Arthur's bravado at first, but he grew on me. If we can have a surly Namor, we can have an "outrageous!" Aquaman. He's possibly the most distinctive character on the show, it didn't take long for me to realize I was laughing with him, not at him.

And I've said here before: Alex Ross's Aquaman in Justice is awesome: tough, dedicated, formidable.

Talking to fish is cool IMO--there's nothing watered-down about Aquaman, & I'm sure someday a passionate, creative writer will give the Sea-King stories he deserves. As for "public" opinion, it's just (and only) that--we don't need to convince non-superhero fans that A.C. is cool.

After all, for many of us, the recent "cool" mass-media versions of Batman & soon, Superman don't necessarily define those icons.

Ever since I read up on his stats from the first DC Role PLaying game, I think back in 1984(?), I had a changed opinion. He was a badass in nearly every category. Imagine being superhumanly strong and able to move as fast underwater as we do on the surface. Then imagine how fast he'd be on the surface. He's always been an honorable and noble character, but those traits are rarely recognized in society. I bet if he had claws he'd be more popular...
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

Anyone that thinks Aquaman is weak should read The Brave and the Bold, Vol. 2, Issue # 32. Aquaman and The Demon save the world from what is essentially DC's exported version of Cthulhu.

I have stayed away from everything '52.' But my son is plowing through trades like a fiend, and I took a gander at the new Aquaman. And ya know what - I enjoyed it. I've read way worse. My kids and I both enjoyed the B&B version of Aquaman, but to me that was kiddie stuff. For more serious fare, DC could (and did) do a lot worse than the Aquaman books IMO. It's not like he ripped anyone's arms off or started dating Wonder Woman. I think the author's gripes are a little over the top. If you want to talk injustice, stop-by the Batson house.

Sub-Mariner is Randy Orton, Aquaman is John Cena, lol.
