The Phantom is a fairly pure concept that no one has totally mucked up...like Wolverine or Iron Man. He's managed to circumvent the whole "illusion of change" crap comic book characters are forced to suffer through, for the most part.

Hermes Press has released HB volumes of Phantom comics reprints. Volume One of The Phantom The Complete Series: The Charlton Years featuring Aparo is here. I haven't picked it up yet, but I've got Volume One of The Gold Key Years waiting for me at the UPS Store and need to pick it up tomorrow. I'll probably work my way chronologically through them, depending on how nice they are.

I'd love to get the Aparo stuff. I've heard about it for years. And Aparo is golden to me.

As a long time Fan of the Phantom, his appeal to me is that he's pretty much unchanged since he began his run. I like the concept of a son following in his Father's footsteps to fight EVERYDAY crime in the Jungle or where ever he is needed. I never thought gee he should have a rogue's Gallery like Dick Tracy or Batman, I like the look of the character his horse hero and his wolf devil who fight along with him....no powers, no real Gadgets, just his fist his guns and he has his Gal.....I just dig Pulp heroes more The Shadow,Zoro,Doc Savage,Flash Gordon, Mandrake,The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet always appealed to me more and at one time they all were Iconic.
