Awesome new Marvel/Star Wars calendar at Wal-Mart!
I saw that the other day, and it really caught my eye. I'm kind of desensitized to Star Wars stuff for the most part, but this was such a unique callback to old school Star Wars it leaped out at me.
Ah---it warms my heart to see older comic book art republished! It gives kids these days a chance to really SEE what comics art looked like before the days of digital inking and coloring. I guess I'm just an old-school guy, but I think the artwork had more character when it was all produced by hand, much like (IMHO) LPs sound so much richer and warmer than a CD or a digital sound file. There are a lot of middle-of-the-road comic artists out there these days who can hide their so-so talents with Photoshop effects and a flashy color job, but back in the day, if you didn't have the talent to make decent comic-book art, everyone could pretty much see it and odds are, you probably wound up on a second or third tier book instead of headlining the next big "event" book...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Couldn't agree more EK! I absolutely LOVE Marvel's take on Star Wars. I was too little to see the first film when it came out, and my only exposure to Star Wars before Empire came out was through the Marvel comics. I like the fact that they really didn't do a straight-up adaptation, but rather ran the concept through the Marvel machine to make colorful, exciting stories that were unique to that medium.
