Old bundled comics sold in stores

I haven't collected or read comics in more than 25 yrs, so I don't know if this is commonly known or discussed in the community - comics from the '80s and '90s bundled into packages and sold in discount stores? I first noticed it a few yrs ago in a local dollar store and was mystified.. then noticed it several more times here and there over the yrs.

The most recent sighting was at Marshalls where they have 10 comics bundled for $5.99.. from what I could tell from the bindings, age ranges were 1987 thru 1997.. and major titles like X-men, Spiderman, Supes, New Mutants, etc..

Do the comic companies really have vast amounts of OLD stock hanging around, and this is how they ultimately distribute it?

I've seen that around here, my guess is it's a third party distributor, stuck with old overstock trying to blow it out.

I've been seeing that a lot lately in discount stores in the UK.

Lots of random titles polybagged into multipacks... including a few of the Amalgam titles from '96 and '97.

I think a Dollar Tree around here had some a while back.

Yep, mine has tons of spawn and spidey bundled. I saw one with batman vs spawn drawn by Mcfarlane. What a huge seller that one was.

Bundles is what got me started on the marvel titles in the early eighties.

Ollies outlets usually have them for $4.99 for ten...Five Below sells three packs too. Never seen anything too wonderful in them, mostly '90s filler, lots of gimmick cover stuff, diecuts & foil

                  Hmmmm....

Nothing official around here, although most of the comic shops have been selling bundles for a while. (That's how I got most of my 60's Legion run.)
