First pic of the Mandarin from IM3

I guess by giving him a Bin Ladenesque look, it is in keeping with Raza and the 10 Rings organization in the middle east.

A less obvious reason to steer away from the 10 super-powered rings concept is that it's a pretty close, concept-wise, to the Infinity Gauntlet, which will no doubt play some part in upcoming Marvel films.

I've always pictured him looking more like this:

^^ While that's how I pictured him too, that's more the Chinese war-lord look, rather than the film, Middle East version (set up in IM1).

Let's be frank--there's little reason to call him "Mandarin" unless he's Chinese of at least Eurasian & using the title as an honorific. Although I'm excited about Kingsley, this version seems far afield. IMO, he looked better as the Hood in Thunderbirds. Without the rings, why bother?

Don't mean to be negative, just feeling disappointed: Regardless if Iron Man, Mandarin has always been one of my favorite villains. Of course, Marvel cinema didn't serve Dr. Doom so well, either.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Actually, several reports from Comic-Con have stated that he does wear the 10 rings. But you're right. Calling him the 'Mandarin' wouldn't make sense if he's not Chinese or of some descent.

Seems to me the rings are more symbolic then magical.

They've actually been called both, along with glowing rings, laser rings, macguffin rings, etc.

They do look cool. Comic-wise, I thought they were modified alien artifacts, originally part of a crashed ship's tech?

At least Johnny Depp was not cast as the Mandarin, thank God for that, lol.

Ben Kingsley is of half Indian decent...so he technically could be referred to as Asian.
