Am I the only one that dislikes the Marvel Zombies concept?

Considering how heavily marketed these characters are to little kids, even preschoolers with the Spiderman and friends line, I find it actually disturbing that marvel would do something like this. At the very least don't merchandise it.

It actually kinda bothers me a bit to think that a little kid with a Spiderman and friends figure could come across action figures of Zombie Spiderman or posters and statues where he is eating Mary Jane.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The concept just seems like another stop along the way of endless bad plot lines in modern comics. There are good things out there still but you have to dig through a pile of rubble to find it.

Resident Evil characters aren't marketed to pre-schoolers.

            Hmmmm....

I don't hate the concept; but I'm not particularly impressed with it. It's kind of a nifty idea... zombies are cool.... but in execution it's kinda the same old same old. (It's REALLY tough to come up with a new way to do the zombie thing.)

            >Considering how heavily marketed these characters are to little kids,

THAT'S the tricky part. Spidey and the Hulk are marketed to little kids, but the zombies are sorta different. Sorta. The trick is to bring 'em in young with the Spiderman cartoon; and then do stuff like the zombie world stories to hang onto them when they get older. I wouldn't poo-poo the zombie stuff JUST 'cos a kid MIGHT see it. I'm one of them folks that believe the world doesn't have to be child proofed.

But I'm also not impressed with "mature content" since it's usually just the same old story with some grue thrown in for shock and titilation.

It's been brought up before and I think we seem to be split on it.

While I think that it's kind of an example of "having your cake and eating it too" meaning you have a property marketed to the very young now being used as mature subject matter I just kind of think the whole concept is somewhat lame.

I've perused an issue or two and fail to see anything beyond exploitation for sake of making a buck. Way to ***** out the characters Marvel.

I had some of the same concerns when I first saw DC's Kingdom Come series.

Except that Kingdom Come ended up being more of a homage to the Silver Age and a bit of an "FU" to the "Grim and Gritty" comics of the time.

An aged Superman who realizes that he cannot force his will upon others in his community is far more subtle than a flesh eating monster.

It's all because of the story arc in the Marvel book. It was a very top seller, I think issue 1 made it all the way to 5th printing. & Was huge for Marvel. "What do companies do when something makes money " ? They suck it dry , & try to cash in on every Angle possible, until they can't anymore. It is kinda disturbing that these characters represent the icons that we all know,.. however if you read the book, they are from a different demention, and are not. Kinda like Earth2 Robin, or Prime Superman.

At least the Story in Marvel Zombies was good, I have not read the 2nd... But other than Ross's cool Justice paintings , Justice Blew imo, & Look at how DC is sucking that for all its worth, still to this day..., & that took 2yrs to come out, before you knew it was gonna blow.

The problems of aging superheroes are a lot more "grim and gritty" than I care to know about. It's good that (most of) the heroes in Kingdom Come were still heroic, but I like my heroes idealized and at the peak of their performance.
I think Kingdom Come Superman was at the peak of his performance actually, he mentions that kryptonite doesn't even affect him anymore. I like positive images as well but enjoy a good story more, KC IMO wasn't gratitious. Next to New Frontier, I consider one of the best comic stories I've ever read.

Marvel's general lack of subtlety is one reason I could never get into their comics. "Hulk smash," is acceptable for a one-shot villain, but kind of dopey for a supposed hero.
Well, there's more to the Hulk than just that but I agree with your comments towards Marvel's lack of subtlety and/or good taste at times.

I think it might have worked better about ten years ago. Now,not so much.

I picked up the issues of "Marvel Zombies 2" that are out so far....ennnnnh, it's OK for a one-shot kinda thing but I don't see what the excitement is all about. The only thing that I think is sorta cool are the Arthur Suydam covers which take a tongue-in-cheek approach to famous Marvel covers.
