It's more than a slightly different version. Also, I had read throughout the years about these (back then) fabled scenes of Lois jumping out the window to force Clark to reveal he is Superman and the scenes of Jor-el and Clark together when he decides to give up his powers so I had to get it. I got it in the Ultimate collection set where I got all the movies for a good price..

While the result is incomplete (because donner was never able to finish the movie) it's a look at the Superman 2 that could've been and that is enough to make it a must see for any fan of the Chris Reeve movies.

There never before seen moments with Marlon Brando and Christopher Reeve alone are enough to make it a must check out for fans of the Reeve movies.

Finally, it's been out long enough so that you shouldn't have to shell out $20 for it. Secondary copies on Amazon start at 12.00

Some very intriguing points for sure.It sounds like if nothing else I must for sure watch it.
Then render my purchasing decision after that.

I don't think I've seen it (except for maybe once or twice at the most on TV) since it was in the theatre. I always thought the mind wipe kiss was dopey. Luthor was such a sharp, smart dangerous villain with a little camp in the first one, but in the second one he seemed like a big ham with a huge side of cheese. Hard to imagine Gene Hackman as a really bad '60's Batman villain, but that's what he seemed like. But that's how I remember it. I'm sure it may be completely different if I saw it again...

I guess I will have to keep my eyes open for the DVD, too. I only have Superman: The Movie right now. I was thinking about the collector tin, but I didn't want 3 or 4 - Just like I only want the Keaton Batman movies. As big a Batman fan as I'd like to be...

I think some guys are making a big deal about NOT buying this. 20 bucks is not that much and when you see the never-before seen footage, you'll be glad you bought it. I thought this cut was great, I can really see this as being as awesome as the first and second Superman had it been the version that was shown. It's like a big "What if?" and you'll be glad and happy about what could have been.

The cost of the tin is pretty high so unless you were planning on buying both versions of 1 and 2 and returns all in the collector editions it probably isn't worth it especailly if you don't want 3 and 4. It has several making of discs including the history channel produced superman special but nothing that isn't available on it's own. The superman returns 2 disc is probably the least compelling since it's bonus material is the Singer web diary and a few deleted scenes (which were nothing spectacular) I would reccomend the Special ed for 1 (which has both cuts and the half the fleicher.famous studios shorts), 2 (lester cut and the other half of the fleisher/famous studios), donner S2, and returns cheaper individually.
many Amazon reviewers complain about the sound effects on the DVD for S1 being ampped up too loud in the 2000 boxed set and the 4 disc ed. I didn't notice that on the tin set but I don't have a home theater setup either

i think i paid just over $50 for the tin. Yeah, I had 1, 1 extended, 2, Mole Men, Fleischer Toons on DVD, S3 on VHS - BUT I got the 2 Donner cuts, AE documentary, 3 and 4(with important deleted scenes) on DVD, Returns, and a few other things everything neatly packed!

One thing that was not in the box that would have been better than the donner cut is what is often referred to as the International Cut of II.
It is more than the TV extended version and not as convoluted as the donner version

you could get it cheaper either place just be sure in either case the seller has a return policy and posted shipping you don't want to buy a copy that doesn't work because it's scrtached too bad

I'LL CHECK. I think it is close to 3 hours. It is on 2 discs with some cool extras. Pretty sure it is full screen.
