My Legion of Doom headquarters interior art.

Most people here know my work on the Micronauts/Endeavor space-ship. I've drawn plans and built models of it. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the insides look like. I was watching the Super Friends and was wondering what might be inside The Legion of Doom headquarters. I've shown this art to a few people and reaction has been mostly positive so I have posted it publicly in my online gallery and I want to share it with all of you. This is what I think the interior for the Legion of Doom might look like. It's all speculative and there are plenty of contradictions in the cartoon but you'll get the genera idea.

In some episodes the doorway/airlock in the teeth of the Darth Vader-like face seems wide enough to let 3 people pass. Sometimes it's only wide enough for 1. I settled for something in between. I forgot to label the deck between the Starboard and Port entrance as Garage/Equiptment level in this pic. In some episodes we have seen the L.O.D. carries land rovers, hovercraft, Captain Cold's ship and Black Manta's sub, (implied?). You would need a whole level just to store those vehicles so I gave it up just for that. It also means those entrances don't lead right to the Grand Meeting Hall.

This is a version with the sub-level retracted. Those support pylons or heat vanes, whichever they may be, have to retract or telescope into the lower level. So there is some space there but not much. So I designated most of it as fuel storage.

The L.O.D. also seems to have more than 1 face to it. I settled on 3 maximum but are there 4 eyes or 6 eyes? In this drawing it would have to have 6 eyes/3 faces. Either way there is potentially 3 entrances/exits, (airlocks), and hopefully would clear up some of the contradictions as some exits do certain things and others shouldn't be able to. In one exit the whole grimacing mouth opens for land vehicles to exit. I don't think all 3 exits need this feature.

In most episodes thrusters are shown in the middle of the mouth area. This makes no sense if you need those areas as entrances/exits. So a little artistic license has to apply as well as common sense. It could just be tho that the whole vehicle is a real death trap as well, Lol.

Great job! This is really fantastic!

Curiosity begs me to ask, are you planning to do the Hall of Justice headquarters too?

In this version I think the side entrances are placed more correctly. Not at 90 degrees each. The Grand Hall is centered as well. In this drawing the L.O.D. would have to have 4 eyes/3 faces. I think it makes more sense that the eyes would do double duty for 2 faces. in some episodes it seems there are eyes and mouth details all the way around. In other episodes there seems to be only 1 face.

A few more images I haven't posted here are at my gallery on Deviant Art if you want to see them as well as lots of other art:

Thank You. I've been capturing screen shots of it to do some work but there are so many contradictions. The Hall of Justice is a big empty hangar from what I've seen. Not much is shown and only a few interesting things hidden. The L.O.D. is way more interesting. Still, I might do a size comparison between H.O.J. and L.O.D. as there are some episodes that have one on top the other.

This might give you a better idea how the eyes and mouth areas are determined. There could be more but this arrangement seems to make a lot of sense. I placed the Grand Hall on deck 2 when I realized how large the L.O.D. was. The main entrance is on the deck below. I would think the villains who live and work in the L.O.D. wouldn't want an entrance directly to their meeting place. I don't have a graphic to show people from Top View so I just inserted the standard person graphics in there to show how people fit. I guess the villains lie around the place a lot.

The eyes on the L.O.D. also open and are used for entry and exit to the vehicle. In some episodes we are shown smaller craft exiting the eye hatches. One episode even showed Captain Cold's craft outside the Grand Hall-it had to get there somehow.

So I placed the elevators to the garage level right up front and behind the eyes. There could easily be elevators further apart or even more elevators. There are stairs and small, people elevators, on each side of the flight deck coming up from the main entrance. I see now I'll have to adjust this as the stairwells aren't wide enough to fit a person. I thought the flight deck would make sense at the front and in between the elevators as it could double for hangar deck operations. Access to these areas are behind the curtains at Lex Luthor's podium. This layout has never been proven but is just conjecture on my part.

I love this kind of thing. Amazing! Great work! Inconsistencies/contradictions could always be explained away as modifications. That crafty Luthor!

Thank You for all the kind words. Here's a drawing of Deck 1 - The Garage Level. I had to enlarge the elevators because Captain Cold's ship wouldn't fit. I'll have to revise the Deck 2 plans but here it is. Still a work in progress tho.
