Which one is better? I just pick these two up at Wlamart for 5 buck, watched em both and have to say 3 is better than 4. The special effects were alot better in 3, plus 3 had Richard Prior.

Prior was in 3.
I personally liked 4 better. Finally Superman fought a SuperPowered Villian.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

As phony as IV was I liked it more.It just seemed like he was finally here to save us from ourselves. This is my world to...blah,blah,blah and he throws all the nukes away.Plus I loved the super villan fight. The Pryor movie just blew donkey chunks.Don't get me wrong I love Pryor but he just didn't fit in the movie if you ask me.Maybe it would have worked better if they had paired him up with wilder...“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

I've vowed never to watch 4, but I consider 3 a half decent Richard Pryor movie guest starring Superman. It should be viewed in the same vein as the Jerry Seinfeld Amex commercials with Superman. Watch it as a double feature with The Toy, Stir Crazy or Brewsters Millions.
As a Superman movie on the other hand, 3 isn't worth five bucks.Comment

Never saw 4, but its still better than 3.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I always liked 4 a lot better then 3.
Take away all the needless comedy and poor story --- 3 was still just plain boring.
Four at least had some good action.
I always loved the Statue of Liberty scene and the fight on the moon in 4
Hackman and Cryer was a weird combo, but I like them together
Cryer to Superman.......

3 had the budget, the effects, the slick production values.
It had the nice Smallville subplot with Lana, and Anette O'Toole was great as Lana.
It had the the great "dark" Supes vs. Clark fight. That still holds up.
BUT the plot and Richard Pryor were total letdowns. It has long been said Pryor was supposed to adlib to make his pressence actually funny. I question whether or not that would have been any better, but either way, he didn't. So every part with him falls flat.
4 had heart. A good idea. A super-powered villain. BUT said villain was TOO over-the-top-just-bad. No character. The effects were horrendous. Even if they had not cut huge chunks out of it, and had filmed more bridging scenes, I still don't think 4 would have totally made sense.
So I'll have to pick 3, when its good, it's really good. When 4 is good, it's still mostly unrealized potential due to the budget and film cuts.

3 is a MUCH better movie then 4
and I suspect most of the reason it would get slammed around here
is that the farce/screwball comedic tone that hardcore comic geeks dislike
and the lack of "cooler" action that hardcore comic geeks crave define 3 more
--- regardless I don't think that stuff outright ruins a movie
---it all depends on what your expectations for a Superman movie's tone to be are
3's plot was seamless for what it was trying to accomplish (the more farcical tone)
(4s bordered on absurd in a movie that was supposed to be much more serious)
and the idea in 3 that the (super) human brain could conquer
the logicless, souless computer that completed the movie was a
great ending twist akin to Superman 2's "safe in the chamber" ending twist
4 was alot more hackneyed of a plot---it had a good heart---a few funny
moments (mostly with Clark/Lacey) and a touching Clark/Lois conversation
(where she hints she knows Clark is Supes), but other than that Superman 4
comes across as a pretty dumb movie to me----dumb in many ways---production
AND script dialogue/plot"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

The lovely Anette O'Toole just swings it for me....loved the Good/Bad Supes thing but could have done without the comedy.
If IV had the money to at least equal the effects of III I think i'd have preffered it...but it just seemed although the message was worthy, it didn't warrent a bigger budget....I mean Supes costume looked green in most of the flying scenes and the editing was atrocious...compare the fight scenes in II and IV and you'll see what I mean.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.
Yes Jamie...it is big isn't it....

3 has a good sequence with the evil superman - otherwise it is rubbish
4 was done low budget and it shows. so much was cut that the film made no sense. - thougvh the cut scenes are equally bad - they at least make sense of the movie and you have Bizzaro (even though they don't call him that)
these two stinkers are only worth buying if they are part of a set.
3 edges out 4 for me.Comment
