“Man of Steel” retains traditional elements, like Superman’s tension between his natural Kryptonian father, Jor-El (Russell Crowe), and his adopted earth dad, Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner),
Is THIS^ a "traditional" element? I thought I picked that up in the trailer, but it felt "new" to me, and frankly, when I detected that vibe, I wasn't even sure if I was interpreting it right.
Costner nailed it too. Those who say he can't act need to watch that scene and reconsider. As I said elsewhere, I think sometimes he phones his work in, but when he's engaged, he's great.
Also, I just thought of this: Superman, a character who stands for Truth, Justice, and the American-way, is being released on June 14th, flag-day. I wonder if it was planned that way, or whether it's just a coincidence.
