Whatever happened to the days where you could read these comics with your kids. YUCK!Actually when I was a teen in the 80's and Crisis and all of the post-crisis stuff was going on, I was buying a ton of comics back then. Even then, though, I remember thinking to myself that I wouldn't have enjoyed them as a 7 year old who was expecting the SuperFriends.
I wish that they had more kid friendly titles. There are only a small few.
My problem with the DCnu and recent DCold is that you can have adult stories without having to install fear/grotesque violence into every issue. My favorite series of old were the ones that took a break from the "action" once in a while. Nowadays, it always seems like each issue is trying to top the last issue for death and gore quotas. It's all good!Comment

I was going to start a whole new thread about who do they think their target audience is if they intend on capturing a NEW generation of readers with this kind of in-your-face stories and art...it ain't kids!!!
The ART of Reader Imagination is lost...subtlety is gone.Last edited by WannabeMego; Aug 16, '12, 4:20 PM.Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!Comment

They have lines aimed at kids. I understand wanting to keep some comics for children. When I have kids I'll want something they can read too. But not at the cost of what I'm reading. There is room in this great big world for both.Comment

I think they've lost sight of the actual art of storytelling and are trying every shortcut they can to keep readers. Sometimes I even question if those who are in charge are actual fans/care.
I just wont read them anymore. Theres TONS of old dogears and reprints for me to discover and revisit.Comment

I agree with you 100%...I just wish it were true.
That in-between age is an audience that is being over looked...My son is 14 now and I've found it very difficult to find a variety of age appropriate material for him that he can identify with that isn't riddle with over the top violence and unnatural woman...there is enough of that already in Video Games.
I agree...there is room for both...but I'm not seeing that.
I know it must be hard listening to all of this 'Get Off My Lawn' Gibber-Jabber when you actually enjoy some of the material that is being knocked...and I'm sorry if that is the case...it's not a criticism towards you...it has more to do with 'us' as an audience/consumer being overlooked/ignored.
I wish they would cater to the Adult AND Adolescent Audiences.Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!Comment

Although to Image's credit, at least they really pushed new characters and concepts to the forefront and tried to push the envelope creatively (perhaps too far). I've said this prior... outside of Jim Lee's sphere of influence, it's actually 90's Marvel Redux if you look at who's involved creatively in the New 52.
Bob Harras is EIC. Jim Lee is not creating his own characters, but doing remake and remodel on the DC characters, just like he did with X-men. Ditto Liefeld. Tom Defalco, Scott Lobdell, Fabian Niecienza, and I think folks forget that Greg Capullo actually made his big break at Marvel on X-Force (for Bob Harras) prior to being scooped up by McFarlane for Spawn.Last edited by samurainoir; Aug 17, '12, 11:59 AM.Comment
