    Dare I call them heroes?

So I hit the Chicago Comic Con. over the weekend. I almost didn't go this year, but Neal Adams and Stan Lee were added late in the game. So I grabbed a few old rags, headed down, and had them scribble on them...

The Brave and the Bold #85 (1969)

First appearance of Green Arrow's then new and now iconic costume, designed by Neal Adams. Adams is my favorite Green Arrow and Batman artist, so it was a bonus to have them both on the cover.

    Green Lantern #85 (1971)

Junkie sidekicks are the best! One of my all time favorite comic book covers, so I had to have this signed as well.

    The Amazing Spider-Man #97 (1971)

    Stan the man Lee!

Requirements for the comic I would have Stan sign...

    Issue of Amazing Spider-Man
    Story by Stan Lee
    Green Goblin on the cover
    John Romita art

And I really, really love this cover.

There is a connection between Amazing Spider-Man 97 and Green Lantern 85. Who knows what it is?

Yeah, he did the art on both the DC issues up there. He inked the Brave and the Bold as well.

no comics code authority approval on either. Both dealt with drugs. Cool autographs.

I just remembered that, but you beat me to it. You must have a sharp memory. Took me awhile to remember.

Edit: I actually just noticed that GL & GA does have a comic code authority approval on it, only Spidey doesn't. But you're still right with the drugs part.

The story there is O'Neil and Adams wanted to do a drug story, but publisher Carmine Infantino was getting cold feet because he knew the CCA would reject it. He dragged those feet, and in the meantime, Stan wrote the Spidey drug story, and published it with no CCA approval. The Spidey stories got positive press, the CCA backed down a bit on portraying drugs, and DC came in late.

BUT, the Spidey story has Harry taking some made-up pills, while Speedy is on heroin. Clearly, O'Neil and Adams did more research than Stan the Man.
