The Jerry Ordway "Power of Shazam" series was a nice attempt to bring a Golden Age flavor to the Marvel Family while updating them at the same time. Unfortunately, it was set in the modern DC Universe which doesn't necessarily always work for a character like Captain Marvel. I also liked Cap's appearances in the early Giffen/Dematteis/Maguire issues of "Justice League", humorous as they were. Something about calling him "Captain Whitebread" I found amusing.

But since "Power of Shazam" he's been handled, well...poorly. The whole "Trials of Shazam" is utter dreck. I was looking forward to the Jeff Smith mini-series but he lost my interest very quickly. Another botched attempt by DC was Roy Thomas' "Shazam!:A New Beginning" mini-series that sprang out of "Legends" (shame on Roy...he should have known better!).
Dreck is right Trials of Shazam is Horrible....and Shazam a new begining was also garbage......

Ordway's Power of Shazam had it's heart in the right place...but the big mistake was setting it in the current DC world....for me it didn't work and Mike Manly's artwork was subpar his Mary Marvel was awful... Ordway should have been the artist from the start..when he took over as artist it was too late....

Alex Ross's version in the Oversized book a few years ago was the best attempt at him.....

Jeff Smith's version was an overhyped over priced bore fest...

I would love to see Darwynn Cooke or bruce Timm take a shot at him....

That new Kiddie version that's coming out soon looks interesting....

Of course, that would be Hoppy the Marvel Bunny aka Captain Marvel Bunny. He's been my avatar here for years I wrote an article on him that ran in "Alter Ego" magazine #25. I also recently updated his Wikipedia page:

I wanna see Capt Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr. (don't call him CM3!), Mary Marvel (I'm not thrilled with the "bad" Mary in "Countdown"), Uncle Marvel, Freckles Marvel, the Lt. Marvels, Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, Sivana, Beautius, Magnificus, Mr. Mind, Ibac, tc. etc. all restored to their former glory....a bi-monthly giant sized book would be a nice start. Don't be afraid to be whimsical and cartoony, DC....everything doesn't have to fit into current continuity.

Captain Marvel does not have super sight or super hearing...that alone puts him at a great disavantage against Supes...he will never see Supes' punches coming. He doesn't have Supes' intellect either.

Supes KOs the "Shazam" dude in four rounds.

The movie Seriel was one of the best of that time.

So IMO Cap Knocks Superman out Cold.....Plus Hopefully they can make a better movie...

            Let's see the Power
S-Wisdom of Solomon Making him wise so he really shouldn't have the mind set of a child . The wisdom of Solomon also provides him with counsel and advice in times of need.
H-Strength of Hercules Okay so we know he's powerful and has same strength as Superman.
A-Stamina of Atlas.......Using Atlas' endurance, Captain Marvel can withstand and survive most types of extreme physical assaults
Z- Power of Zeus.....this alone would wipe Superman off the map....this power enhances Marvel's other physical and mental abilities, grants magic resistance against all magic spells and attacks, as well as allowing for interdimensional travel. Marvel can use the lightning bolt as a weapon by dodging it and allowing it to strike an opponent or target. The magical lightning has many uses, including creating apparatus, restoring damage done to Marvel, or acting as fuel for magical spells
A- Courage of Achilles this Like the wisdom, gives Marvel superhuman amounts of inner strength on which to draw
M- Mercury's speed, Captain Marvel can move at greater than supersonic speeds This also enables him to fly

Also the Wish Fullfillment aspect that kids Love.......The idea that a Kid can transform into a superhero is pretty cool and why i always Liked Captain Marvel
Superman has the power of the yellow sun on his side...that alone frys all them Greek gods put together, lol.

DC could use some "Wisdom of Solomon " When writing Shazam! These days as well...
