Why Batman is better than Superman

    Hmmmm....

Like many arguments online, one side is backed up by intelligence and careful preparation while the other only keeps going because arguments just bounce off its stupid invulnerable skin.

    So, combined with this one:

Does that mean Iron Man is the greatest superhero?

Iron Mans cool but one of the best things about Batman is hes open for interpretation. I think thats why theres so many version of him and most have been sucessful.

I think that i do like the 1st Iron Man film better than any of the Batman films though.

As for Superman, hes the first and he will always be what he is. Hes what a superhero should be at there very best.

Just going by the title for this thread Batman is better because he could happen. However unlikely someone could actually be Batman in the real world. It wouldn't be like the comic books or anything else but the basic idea of a guy dressing like a bat to scare people and fight evil is not impossible.

Superman was first and would easily beat Batman unless he had kryptonite. No contest. Supe's the man.

Superman is a true superhero...you see...with all those powers, he could've ruled the world...but chose to help humanity instead...you can't be more heroic than that.

Batman on the other hand is a vigilante thug...end of story...lol.

That's what you get by starting these silly little threads...

Ok, I posted before I read that article...actually the author does make good points on Batman's behalf...especially the part where he says that on point #1...Batman Would Lose the Fight.

                  Dead on article...I like it...

                      >actually the author does make good points on Batman's behalf

Holee Smokes! Hector's been replaced with an alien clone!!!! AAAHHHH!!!!! NONE of us are safe!!!!! AAAHHHH!!!!!!

Anyhoo.... yeah; I agreed with a lot of the stuff they said, although I don't think Batman is immune. The biggest problem with writing a Superman story is coming up with a reason why he doesn't just come in and punch out the problem: be it aliens, monsters, or a reality you just don't like. Back in the day, when playing the DC Heroes RPG there was a lot written about running a Superman player.... mostly ways to complicate stuff up so he didn't just win. That's the problem with a character that's been amped up so much over the years. (Hence why they keep dialing him back.)

Making him "gooder than good" complicates the issue too, since it's tough to come up with THEMATICALLY satisfying stories. His current image owes a lot to the post-Wertham era; where a squeaky-clean Supes engaged in all sorts of kid friendly antics. It's difficult to challenge that attitude, since it's so ingrained in the character.... and there's so little behind it. As a product of the Golden Age Supes came about during a time when nobody really cared about the details; a mixed blessing for sure since it facilitated all kinds of imaginative stories but hampered any kind of depth. Post-Marvel (early Marvel.... the 60's) the thing was to add personality quirks to the superheroes.... difficult to do with someone like Superman without altering his core.

I kinda think that's why so many people like the IDEA of Superman, but not the ACTUALITY. That is, he's consistently listed as one of the most popular superheroes ever, but has lots of peiords where his comic sales slump, or the movies don't do so well, etc.

....and as for Batman; he's the same but opposite. Bats is SUPPOSED to be awesome, so no matter what he's facing the writers come up with some way.... often ad-hoc.... for him to beat the bad guy. Even when it's not plausible within the established setting. (Such as karateing the Hulk into submission.)

I think this new Man of Steel is going to revolutionize and change the way we all look at Superman...while possessing basically the same powers...his attitude and outlook is going to be much more badarse.

Don't get me wrong...the allure of the original Supes it what attracted me to him in the first place...but there's also room for a different kinda Supes....so I gladly welcome both versions of Superman...

Hec, Batman is a vigilante but not a thug.

Batman is very cool--cooler than any movie yet makes him out to be--but Superman is tops. He is THE iconic superhero.

And the only person that thinks Iron Man is best is Tony Stark.
