SDCC: Dynamite's "MASKS" by Chris Roberson and Alex Ross
Pulp heroes Green Hornet/Kato, Zorro, The Spider, The Shadow and more unite in this 8-issue mini-series. The first issue is
completely painted by Ross...

I hope I don't come off as a big jerk for saying this, but it seems more and more like anything with Alex Ross art reads inversely proportional to how good it looks. Love the pic........
Chris Roberson's been writing good stuff at DC before he burned his bridge there for speaking out against Before Watchmen.
Looks like he must have had this gig lined up when he decided to jump ship in a fairly loud fashion. Unfortunately, his third Fables Cinderella arc will never see the light of day, despite being written and submitted to DC already.
Does Dynamite still have the Lone Ranger license? If they have Green Hornet as well, then maybe we'll finally see the legacy connection that has only been hinted at in previous comic book incarnations. I know Zorro had a crossover series with Lone Ranger previously didn't they?
looks good, hope its better than most of Ross's recent stiuff. Guessing that'sthe Black Bat up there. Wonder if DC still has the Doc Savage and Avenger rights tied up.

I'm always on the fence with stuff like this. On one hand, it's a neat idea.... on the other it's basically fan fiction. I dunno.... stuff like this REALLY hasn't been sitting right with me for a long time, since it's a rehash of a rehash of a bunch of characters that have been cloned, copied and ripped off for decades. What new bit can we possibly learn at this point? What twist, what hidden trait....? Especially one that's not going to seem like a ripoff of one of the ripoffs that came after.
There is something intellectually potent about having the originals back in action, but emotionally it feels like well tread ground. Unless you want to.... I dunno; make the Green Hornet an awkward slacker, or the Shadow a killer cyborg.... but then you kinda move away from the original enough that it's almost not the original any more.
