Bryan Hitch at DC again?
If so, I would guess it's only a matter of time before they give him Superman. Mark Millar has said for ages that he has a Superman story he wants to do with Hitch... and the way is probably clear now that Levitz is retired from publishing.

What caused Levitz and Millar to get crosswise? -
The Authority was constantly getting mucked with and censored... again around the same time when Wildstorm had just been sold to DC and issues of Alan Moore's ABC got pulped. Frank Quitely walked off the title and Art Adams came in, and was also made to redraw panels after Wildstorm editorial had already cleared it. There was also all kinds of fits and starts with Millar's Superman Red Son.
Hitch had made a name on The Authority with Warren Ellis, but did not gel with Mark Waid on JLA.
Essentially this led to the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's New X-men and Millar and Hitch's The Ultimates (and Ultimate X-men) over at Marvel because heads rolled over the fact that no one in publishing took advantage of the extra publicity around the first X-men film. Of course the domino effect this had was John Byrne heading over to DC after X-Men the Hidden Years got the boot in the wake of Morrison's relaunching the X-Titles.Last edited by samurainoir; Jul 10, '12, 1:56 PM.Comment

Cool. I would like to see Millar do some more Superman work. I recently read a reprint of three of his animated Superman stories that were good reads. Obviously, he'd take a different tone with new material, but you could tell he got Superman and knew how to make him work, which seems to be quite rare.
Maybe he could adapt his Superman movie ideas which he has gone on and on about.Comment

I think that's exactly what I think would happen, although I suspect Morrison's all star take might be rather similar, particularly the return of Mad Scientist Lex Luthor.
Millar has said that it's loyalty to Joe Q which has kept him at Marvel... which might not be an issue anymore since Joe Q left publishing for his "Stan Lee" gig of movie consulting. Also it's probably dozens of times more lucrative to be developing Millarworld titles that get adapted into movies, and it seems all of them are already optioned even before he starts typing the scripts these days. XMen the Hidden Years got canned because whoever was in charge there at the time thought that books set in the past were too confusing to new readers. Had nothing to do with Morrison or Millar's books.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Whoever was in charge at the time was Joe Q... the one and same man who cancelled Hidden Years and recruited Morrison and Millar to revamp the X-Men in New X-Men and Ultimate X-Men. How is that not connected? Particularly given the timing of the cancellation of Hidden Years and the launch of New X-men?
It's all part of the clear the deck mentality with that particular launch if you do recall what was really happening during that period. They said they wanted fewer X-books, and that was the explanation they gave for Byrne's cancellation, but do you honestly think it was mere co-incidence that cancelling a bunch of X-books had nothing to do with Morrison coming on board? They do that every other week now whenever there is any kind of new relaunch of a creative team at Marvel... it's practically become company policy.
Joe Q specifically poached editor Axel Alonso from Vertigo, and went after Vertigo creators like Morrison, Millar, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Peter Milligan, Brian K Vaughn, Brian Azzerello, and he even made a play for Alan Moore.
Many of the old Guard were offered The End titles as consolation IIRC. Byrne was offered X-Men The End with Chris Claremont, but turned it down. Claremont did end up with Extreme X-Men though. And they ended up with more X-books than when they previously started... which pretty much shows you how much spin that was.Comment

I remember Quesedilla stating that he didn't understand the Hidden Years as a period piece(considering his mentality that's not hard to believe). He originally was not going to dump it as the sales were pretty good, but obviously he changed his mind. Byrne's final return rip to DC was way less than stellar. With Next Men tanking and Marvel drying up for him it was his only course of action.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. Call me crazy but I'm still a Byrne fan even after all of the negative stuff I've read about him supposedly over the years....Bottom line is he still has more talent in his little finger than most of the hacks getting plum assignments today...Think OUTSIDE the Box! True Bryne's work still is better than many photoshop hacks wannabe's at least Byrne can still draw well. I've accepted the way he is now.....I just try to ignore the stupidity that comes out of his mouth and his Diva cry baby attitude...I just wasn't able to get into his writing in recent years.....although I haven't read anything he's done as of late......oh hell i haven't read anyones as of late my ban of DC and Marvel continues.....

Yeah, and now they are basically using X-Men Hidden Years team in the new title the New Uncanny X-Men. However, I'm a bit confused, is it just Jean Grey Marvel's bringing back from the past or the whole first X-Men crew?Comment

Yeah, I still love Byrne too and was bummed when they cancelled X-Men:The Hidden Years.
If I remember correctly...John was pretty P.O.'d about it himself.
