When I heard Remender and Cassaday were getting an Avengers book I was hoping for a classic looking line up, not a mash up of Xpeople and Avengers. Blechh. Part of the reboot.
You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks
I can see right now this is another botched AVENGERS title. Why doesn't MARVEL just go ahead and make EVERYONE in the MU a freakin' AVENGER!!! Havoc, Wolverine and Rogue all three are just so unstable that I don't actually think Cap would ever even recommend, let alone approve, their membership into THE AVENGERS...!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
The idea is horrible...why so much cross-pollination between The Avengers and The X-Men is beyond me...Both teams have unique histories and ideaologies and shouldn't be meshed together. I know there's some precedent with Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch being long-time Avengers but they were never X-Men, they were part of the Brother hood of Evil Mutants and they did a face turn. Wolverine joining the Avengers was the first mistake, Namor joining the X-MEn the second and this just seems like additional pile-on.
And that is some of the worse artwork I have ever seen from Cassaday, who is usually pretty good...

I agree with a lot of the arguments against this book, and at first glance I thought that was McGuire art. Doesn't look like Cassaday's style to me at all.
But, I like this kind of reset Marvel is doing better than what DC did last year. This is more about a marketing strategy than actually saying our characters aren't good enough to tell stories with anymore. We have to change a lot of stuff that made them popular in the first place to chase this nonexistent horde of readers who are just waiting to buy a ton of comics if only Superman and Batman didn't wear trunks.
I read that the theory behind the group coming out of the Phoenix stuff is to handle mutant threats and threats to mutants. Yeah, I know, I thought that's what the X-Men did, too.
Lot of power on that group. I'll try it. It's kind of a riff on what Marvel's been doing with Secret Avengers, anyway, just renamed.
