New 52 Black Lightning and Blue Devil

All of these costumes are so derivative of each other. The collars, knee pads, piping.

To me it's totally nuts to redesign characters and take away their distinctive looks.

You know Bruce Timm briefly toyed with giving the Justice League members a standard uniform style before he realized he was nuts. He then used those designs on the Justice Lords. That worked for them, but for random characters across an entire universe, it just seems very narrow-minded.

What is this obsession with the collars? Is this an actual something somewhere for some sport? Speaking for myself, nothing I enjoy better than having something tight & constricting around my neck while I'm doing, well anything that involves breathing.
Someone at DC needs to make Jim Lee actually wear a tie all day. I guarantee his next design look would involve tank tops.

What's the deal with those skinny little horns and goat feet on Blue Devil? Is he like an antelope demon now?

As for Black Lightning, no redesign will ever do it for me until they give him Black Vulcan's helmet.

It's all such a crappy Image design. Hate to repeat that statement over and over, but it's true. The effects of that junk is never going to go away. As crappy as he is, Liefeld influenced too many of these new "hot stuff" artists.

My question is, why does Blue Devil need armored knee pads?

Apparently you have to have knee pads, neon piping, nehru collars and random etch lines to exist in the DCnU.
